Will Super league end up being a feeder comp to the NRL?

There was a lot of NRL talent in the English team, probably the most ever! With Herbie Farnsworth and Dominic Young becoming stars in their own right , now the NRL are in search of the next big talent out of England and with the cap increasing not only is it a challenge to play in the best Rugby league comp in the world but becoming increasingly lucrative.

I welcome it and it's probably the best way forward for England. If you want to be the best, you have to play against the best.

The drop in standard and quality of players playing in the competition is quite shocking to that of the late 90’s-early 00’s.

comepare the makeup of dominant sides like St Helens, Wigan, Leeds and Bradford to today’s dominant sides is so alarming that’s it’s not even funny.

That being said there will always be a handful of top quality NRL standard players produced over a short period of time in the super league that could transfer over to the NRL.

Yes and no really.

Yes in that the quality Welsh RU players that used to cross-codes and head up north to Lancashire&yorkshire top flight clubs has ended completely and a number of highly talented youth schoolboy RL players have been targeted by English RU clubs.

No in that there’s been an alarming drop off in the number of youngsters playing RL in England as well as an equally alarming number of youth/grassroots teams disappearing.

New Zealand, Tonga and Samoa have become much better International sides from players being brought through the NRL systems.
I welcome the same outcome from English players to help make their International side better.

I'd think also the growth and glamour of the Premier League would be luring young kids also.

Yes, the cap difference is so great now that it is financially worthwhile an English player moving comps. Also the more success you see in English players in the NRL the more NRL clubs will scout in England. I'm dreading when clubs come sniffing around our superstar halfback in the making. Sadly for my club and its fans its probably only a matter of time.

I think mickey Lewis will want to establish himself in super league for a few years before he thinks about moving on.

sure does, kind of why Im surprised someone hasn't signed him now, if he fulfills his potential he will become a very expensive commodity to sign.

Im surprised Dolphins didn't get some English players given Wayne's connection and their struggles to sign any quality backs.

to be honest mate I’m glad he’s staying where he is for the time being and my advice for what it’s worth to any talented youngsters at percieved smaller clubs would be to stay put for a few seasons and establish yourself at the club and in super league getting games under your belt before moving on to bigger clubs and bigger things.

Far too many talented youngsters move on too soon and fail to live up to their potential due to pressure or not being established and experienced enough playi at the top level.

We knock V`landy`s for increasing the salary cap probably at the expense of ploughing money into development (amongst other probable worthy causes) but I do wonder whether he works on the premise of the more money you can throw at players, the better talent you`ll get, and that goes from all parts of the world and in turn those competitions will benefit from that in that they this will give more opportunities to the players that step up to fill those vacancies. Little bit like what is happening out of Penrith now.

Be careful writing anything positive about the ARLC here. Captain negative is waiting in the wings. The big money thrown around in union has definitely come back to bite them. Those clubs going under in London are a huge shock.

Economics has a lot to play at the moment too. Union has big corporate backing , it's where you wine and dine your prospective clients. The company is doing well, you sponsor your favourite team.
That massive monetary boom is coming down, with it those glamour clubs are taking a hit.
The steady ship of the NRL income stream..
