Will Tallis Retire Before 2002?

There was some speculation that Gorden Tallis might come back in time for the semis but this appears to be not the case.
This article from News Ltd:
Tallis rules out 2001 comeback
From our wire services
30jul01
BRISBANE captain Gorden Tallis has scrapped courageous comeback
plans for the NRL finals after being warned by his specialist it was
"too risky".
Tallis, who underwent delicate spinal surgery on his neck in May after
being tackled high by Northern Eagles forward Adam Muir, had been
toying with a shock comeback until consulting his Brisbane surgeon
late last week...
...and so on...

Nathan Brown has asimilar condition which was detected it the pre season and it ended his career.
Initially I was surprised that Tallis thought himself a chance to play again in 2001.
No matter what people think of Gorden Tallis, he is one tremendous football player and I doubt of anyone wants to see his career cut short.
But this injury / spinal condition is set to dog him for many more months.
Will it ultimately see him retire?

well I think thats why he's a bit hesistant to coming back this year. He should be back next year. his injury didnt look that bad, but it's one of those injuries that don't need huge impact to have effect. but whatever happens, gordie will always be a great.

Same as Brownie. His injury looked minor so that made the doctor send him to a specialist.
Both Brown and Tallis have the same condition. Basically, it is a narrowing of the spine and increases the chance of player breaking his neck.
It has nothing to do with Tallis's injury. Except that it was the injury with led to the detection of this condition.
Personally, I think it's amazing that he still wants to risk playing any contact sport at all!
