Perth is the country’s fastest-growing capital city with more than 81,000 people – or 220 a day – moving to the west in 2022-23, according to the latest population figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
It also made Western Australia one of only two states in the nation to have net internal migration, meaning more people arrived in the west from interstate than left for other parts of the country.
A 3.6 per cent jump in 2022-23 marks the biggest annual change to the state’s population, with more than 2.3 million people now calling Perth home.
