Will the Chad lay a hand on soward tonight?

Couple of things POM is not a centre who can teach those around him, Covell did that for him, and POM never has taken it upon himslef to teach others.

Chad has played 6 games and will make mistakes, GUS has said players dont really come into there own till they play 50 or more games.

Gardner has to understand that he needs to make decisions not wait espically with rolling ball

On the plus though Graham has really came on in the last month

I agree, in the lead up to that try Pom floated across back peddling while Stappo only had eyes for Morris. Cooper saw his "no idea" defense and got outside and around him.
Pomm farked up plain and simple.
Jesus I remember screaming at the telly - FFS Pom run at the merkin!

Don't worry about Poms defense last night. It has been part and parcel of his goal line defense for as long as I can remember. He is easy meat close to our line and the opposition know it.

And this from a bloke that has played how many games as a center?

It's not like he is a first year rookie. Gee I hope Hull wasn't watching that game last night.

I was watching it with a Sharkie mate last night and he called Pom the Italian Tank. One gear for forward and 23 gears in reverse.

The last second tackle on Jenny Craig-Cuthbo was it for me. If he could do it at the 80minute mark he surely could of done it at the 10th minute. I know if a bloke had made me look that big a goose I would of planted a hit on him ..... even if it was 20 seconds or so late.

Maybe pom was trying to cover for The Chad too much. But pom just doesn't have the speed to pull it off. Absolutely carved up. Defensively pom, The Chad, bakuya (in fact our whole right side) were poor. They can take equal credit for mine.

oh cmon. For f**k sake. It was a blatant blitzkreig down the left. They targetted CT with weyman then ran soward straight after. Soward floated & pom had to float to cover CT & Stapo against Cooper & Morris.
They needed to react & jam in on them from the word go. the sliding does nto work against them & the slide started with CT.
If they are good enough they will play outside the jam & score. If the jam is good enough you cut them off everytime.

Reefy you are way of the mark here.

How can you say its the halves fault for pom getting beat on his outside shoulder 3 times?

Even if you think they should of jammed in it comes back to the training Flanno is held responsible 1 player doesnt cause a whole backline to slide defending.

Im sorry mate but what your saying doesnt add up at all.

The defensive line is dynamic. The outside guys to react to what is in front of them. You cant jam if the inside guy doesnt do his(their) job. It means Pomm & stapo were sliding all night. Now we know Pomm is no super speedster & we know that Cooper & Morris are. Throw in Boyd running inside of Cooper & the slide defense cant cope. The halves needed to cut soward off & make him pass early or pass inside. This is the job of the halves. AS graham was on the other side, it leaves one guy.

Actually Reefy, whilst I agree there needs to be pressure on the opposition halves, I think you are unfairly placing that responsibility on Townsend when it should be the responsibility of players inside of him otherwise you are running the risk of Pom not following and then leaving a massive overlap or gapping hole for Boyd to hit at pace.

Pom's defence was atrocious last night and the blame can not be placed on Townsend. Most of the tries could have been prevented had Pommeroy actually tackled rather than shirt grab - and we know he can tackle and put on big hits.

The defence on that side definitely needs attention, but I think focusing solely on this as the problem from last night would be a really negative way to continue the season where we again focus on defending rather than winning - it's this mentality that lost us the game against Manly.

Our team has the ability to play pressuring football - we have the kicking game we've been missing, we have good go-forward, but we find ourselves playing out of our own end a whole lot. So some tactical changes need to be made:

Focus on Field Position

Discipline

We gave away some very soft penalties taking pressure off the Dragons when they should be fighting out of their own end. Our win against them in Round 2 came from great pressure without penalties - and so was the first 60 minutes of the Manly game. These are two of the top sides in the competition that we controlled where they had the ball - this is key. We don't let many long range tries in.

Handling

When we get behind, the players panic and start attempting to throw the miracle pass. Sometimes it will work, but the majority of times it won't. We need to play to the field position - coming out of our own end we should not try the miracle pass - but feel free when we are in their end as the penalty is minimal.

Now this isn't to get rid of offloads. If they can easily and safely get the ball away - then do it. But don't try the risky plays that rarely pull off.

I personally feel like the side started to believe their own hype. We were too much in the media drawing attention to ourselves whilst the Dragons sit back and concentrated on the game. I know we need publicity - but ultimately, we can't sacrifice our game for our name in the paper. We had four wins on the trot which was great and we were seeing some good football - but when you look at who we beat it isn't something to go off about!

In every level of football I have played, it is the centres job to control the width and line speed. To me, Pom can't/won't do that. Like was said earlier, Cov helped pom a lot. Now that he is the senior man, he is incapable of Doing it.
Not sure what the answer is, but pom ain't it.
Thank god Newcastle like to play down their right. Also helps that sau prob wont pkay.

Pomm didnt have confidence in the chad.
How that is CT's fault I dont know.
Pomm kept staying in as if trying to protect the chad hence giving Cooper too much room and Pomm couldn't cover.
Im a fan of the Pomm but I have to think the blame for the left side D lies with him.

On a side note, can someone make Gards sit in a room for a few days and watch how BIlly Slater positions himself? I love Gardner, he is great with th ball in hand but he needs to work on his positional play in defence.

I wont be slitting my wrists after last night, we were poor and they were very good.
We gave them a shirtload of ball and didnt aim up in defence.

We are sitting a lot better now than I thought we would be and if we beat all the teams we should beat in the run home we should make the 8. We are never going to win the comp with our cattle and hopefully the boys learn from last night, the whole team was poor, from gallen to pommeroy and everyone in between.
