Will the new rectangle Stadium in Melbourne be the best league venue?

Without doubt the venue will be up there. I was at the Storm AGM a couple of weeks ago and their new CEO was saying how they are going to light the Stadium up in purple on game days. So for all the people working in the CBD (when Storm play on Friday nights) will see a massive purple stadium and will know the Storm are playing. Very cool, their crowds are going to go nuts!

This is probably the 1000th time someone has posted this in this thread.

But the capacity was a legal thing, Etihad had a contract with the Vic Govt that no stadium greater than 30K be built in its vicinity.

31K was a actually a comprimise brokered by the Govt, it was orginally going to be only about 20K.

Yeah but the planners could have come up with a design that can extend the place (apparently the unique roof structure doesn't allow for expansion). Etihad's contract terms aren't going to last forever are they?

SFS is still the best.

maybe 20 years ago

SFS is a good stadium but is dated compared to modern stadia.

Pitch of seats, public transport, food outlets, cover from roof etc all let SFS down compared to new stadia. Still the best in Sydney though and one of my faves when it is full.

So again, what's the point in having a bigger stadium when 99% of the time it won't be filled to the capacity it is now at 31,500?

exactly, 31K is perfect. Big enough for full semis yet small enough not to feel empty on a week by week basis.

upset i didn't join in on the fap fest?

Not really just suprised at peoples lack of knowledge about crowds and support. The Storm have been fighting with one hand behind their back for over a decade. I can't believe that people think the new stadium won't make a massive difference. They will easily average over 20k this year.

I'm sure come September most people will be far too pre-occupied laughing at yet another Dragons choke than to be worried about bumping a thread about the mexican's crowd averages. Knock yourself out though......:sarcasm:

I thought they did. I thought that it can eventually be expanded to about 50,000, when Etihad's contract ends. I remember thinking at the time 'Why not build it 50,000 now?' but this was obviously before I knew of the Etihad agreement.
However, I haven't heard anything about possible expansion for a while. Maybe you're right about the roof...

Also, another poster mentioned that it will be lit up purple when the storm play on a Friday night. This is based on the Allianz Stadium in Munich. I've seen it and it's awesome. Will definitely attract the attention of motorists (especially as they will be stuck in the Punt Road/Hoddle Street carpark).

Isn't the Victorian crap getting a bit old? I actually know a family who have a disabled child and references to geniuss aren't really that funny. I get the interstate rivalry but it's time to mature fellas (cue the HTFU calls...)

possibly.

so that makes it ok to sprout total BS and try and put it forward as an educated, well thought out matter of fact?

why don't you have a crack and tell us you have an above average IQ, nah some things are just too outlandish.

Wireman is from Warrington, England.

I'm a nuff nuff from England! (Whats a nuff nuff?)

When teams over here have got new grounds crowds have gone up a lot. More than 70% increase in some cases.

A nice new shiney ground with pictures in the papers, and somewhere you would want to go and take your family to.

My comment about Sydney wasn't aimed af the SFS, but some of the smaller grounds out in the sticks. Cronulla, Manly, Parra etc. The 'Victorians' will be giving them a schooling when it comes to putting on a game of Rugby. ;-)
