The Panasonic Cup in 1988, which equals the Steelers achievement of winning the Toohey’s Challenge Cup from the early to mid 90s.

Do some research before asking stupid questions.
Thanks Cletus.

As previously mentioned we’re not debating the Steelers here.

So, to summarise your argument, St George are a successful team between 1980 & 1996 because they won a midweek comp in 1988.

f**k me. That’s beyond pathetic.

With the announcement from Scotty from marketing tonight, I assume that the leagues club is now closed until further notice?

I wonder what corporation with diverse interests is going to be able to help us with cash flow now that the St George side of the venture will be unable to make any money?

Gold....pure sophistry!

My, you ARE precious about the Steelers. I only pointed out that both clubs won midweek comps within the timeframe YOU outlined. Similarly, I have not uttered that St. George were successful between 1980-96’.

Have you been drinking again?

See this is why I say you’re thick dipshit who I really don’t care for.

My question:
That in no way shape or form answers my question of how St George can be considered successful from 1980 - 1996.

What silverware do they have to show for that period?

Seriously man, you’ve become a parody of your former self.

You’re either trolling everyone or I’m beginning to have some serious concerns..

St George did make
85 GF & minor premiers all 3 grades
And grand final all 3 grades
92 GF beat by a Broncos team when no salary cap existed
93 Gf same as 92
96 GF against Manly
I call that success and what great teams and coaches we had.
Roy Masters, Brian Smith and David Waite.

While I’m aware of all of these achievements, “Dipshit” used the term “silverware”.

Success to some degree, but nothing to show for it.

Cool, lots of also rans but we didn’t actually win anything..

Thank you for reinforcing my point that St George were failures from 1980-1996.

I feared I’d have to dumb it down for you.

You asked what silverware did Saints win during the period 1980-‘96?

My answer; the Panasonic Cup from 1988. As an addendum, I highlighted this was commensurately the same level of success as the Steelers winning the Toohey’s Challenge Cup in the early 90s. For some reason, this rankles with you.

Then again, you’ve always had an aversion to facts and the truth,

Yet another example of deflection, obfuscation and just a lack of plan old comprehension skills on your part.

So, you don’t care for me?

How will I EVER get by?

That's a loaded question.

ST GEORGE
1984: Club Champions
1985: Minor Premiers (all three grades), Runners up, Club Champions
1992: Runners up
1993: Runners up
1996: Runners up

That actually counts as silverware. Shall we see how many times Illawarra won a Club Championship or appeared in a grand final during this same period? I know they scored themselves at least three wooden spoons.

We’re not talking about the Steelers though, we’re discussing St George and WIN corporation.

Did we get any trophies for those achievements? Was the JJ still the premiers trophy in ‘85?

But you are in effect talking about the Steelers. You mention the years 1980-1996 and what have St George achieved, well that will inevitably invite comparisons.

I don't know how this is important. 'Silverware' is a metaphor for success. The rewards and accolades for this come in numerous shapes and forms.

FYI, the minor premiers have always received prize money. There have been instances of shields or trophies and of course there have been times when premiers were decided without any semis or finals. So it has always carried a good amount of prestige. To suggest that a MP is not a successful achievement is ignoring the great heritage of our game. To have the JJ Giltinan Shield awarded to the more recent MPs is a very nice touch.

As for runners up, I'd like you tell any player that it wasn't special to play in a grand final. Mark Coyne said of all the years he played at St George, 1996 was his most proud.

Club Championship, yes of course. Up until the 90s, it was held in very high regard.

That time period was going from when St George had last won a premiership through to the end of the time period Saints Forever picked as the period of success.

Given it’s close to co-inciding with the 1982-1998 period where St George tried to go it alone without the support of Illawarra I can see why people keep confusing it with a Steelers thing.

Clearly shows that United we stand, divided we fall.

I dunno.. I look at silverware as the winners trophy/trophies..

As much as I enjoyed seeing the dragons take out the Minor premiership in 2009 & 2010, outside of the teams supporters I don’t know how many people would know who finished top of the ladder after a few years..

And losing a grand final sucks, but again after a while people begin to forget who came 2nd..

Well then you are taking it too literally. Why do you think people cheer when their team wins a minor premiership? It's not because of the prize money or the Shield. The riches of life are not always materialistic. Things that sparkle and shine do provide some joy I suppose. But I remember the cheers and the pride in the team.

Because the masses unwittingly are subconsciously aware that life is a challenge and the hippocampus temporality overrides amygdala, allowing them to resonate with the success of their tribe in battle on the football field?
