OK, so Kearney wants to bring in his own men. Does anyone think this may have implications down the track for long time Eels Knowlesy and Cat?
Let's face it Parra by NO means are the fittest team in the comp, u cant stick with people for the sake of being faithful, I know these two guys are very respected, but I also know past Parra teams have been nowhere as fit as other sides.

New club, new culture. I believe half the problem of this club is that the bulk of the coaching staff remains when we have a coaching change. The structure needs to change IMO.

Nothing wrong with Kearney bringing his assistant, look at how well Hage's and Daisy worked out

very good coach is brad arthur, particularly with the skills and technicalities of the game. done a brilliant job with our young players like justin o'neill, matt duffie, gareth widdop, luke kelly etc.

Bit of a coup to get both, whcih sucks for us.

We'll see. It's not hard for the coaching staff to look good when their club has been rorting the cap by millions each year.

This could turn out to be a massive coup for us or it might turn out that Brian Waldron was the best asset that Storm had on their books.

I don't know if this is true ..... yes, we look unfit at times - but I believe there are 2 parts to fitness on the field - physical and mental - and i reckon its more our mental side that let us down

by that I mean our attitude drops off and you give in to feeling tired ..... every player from every club feels fatigued on the field - its a hard game and you exert yourself over and over .... its guys like Hindy who push through that barrier because they are mentally tough

we had some games where we came back towards the end of the game - so the fitness was there - I just don't think we had the attitude to use it consistantly

I find it interesting this Arthur guy has left the Storm to be an assistant with us .... why wouldn't he stay and be Bellamy's number 1 assistant

generally you'd think kearney being a noob would be likely to have a better chance of staying longer, whereas bellamy has been at the storm a long time and I reckon he will probably leave in a few years - which would likely give arthur a better shot down there if he has aspirations to be the #1 coach - maybe he doesn't?? maybe he likes kearney more?? maybe its hard work being bellamey's assistant?? maybe bellamy didn't want him?? maybe he likes the idea of coming back to parra/sydney??

rorting the cap has nothing to do with putting the polish on players

It's also not hard for the coaching staff to look good when the club has a great recruitment and retention policy.
Roosters come to mind.

I agree
Sure they rorted the cap but most were enhanced by the club unlike the dogs. Buying established 1st graders

roosters have had pretty basic rentension/recruitment this year:
1 - get Carney
2 - piss off Willie

all pretty much fell into place from there

yes and no

from all I have heard, the storm have a MASSIVE amount more money put into off-field matters and pay big bucks to find and attract high quality youngsters .... so yes, you have to make the most of that talent, but maybe it was already substantially there anyway

Look at what BS was doing at Newcastle last year. They were on the way to a good 2nd year after the cleanout

We have arguably the biggest and best junior base.
Look at out spine. ESP the past few years. Somethings not been right for a while.
Our recruiting has been the biggest disappointment

i've come to believe our great junior base is a myth .... yeah its big, yeah they do good as kiddies, but generally they don't seem to have it in them to be the best NRL players

Of course it's a myth. The Roosters have FOUR junior clubs. Have scaled back funding to them to the extent that the parents have to pay to put the kids on the paddock for S G Ball - yet had NYC in the semis and NRL in the GF this year.

the penrith and parra junior bases are only a myth to penrith and parra why.Simple we fund them blood them and the roosters sharks dogs take them .Both clubs need to start growing balls and take on the NRL and demand concessions for juniors

Agree with you Murray , the greater west has been a breeding ground for not just Easts Dogs and sharks but for the rest of Sydney , for the past 40 years.
I think the other clubs just have a better judgment of our junior talent than we do atm.

It's no myth. We just don't keep the right players
