The West Indies have run out 50 – 22 victors over the South African Wild Dogs at New River Stadium in London continuing their 100% winning record in internationals. The Windies, who were bolstered by a number of Super League Academy players participating in their squad, dominated the match played in front of a healthy crowd in the English capital.

A strong start was the key to the West Indies success, with the Caribbean representative side racing out to a 26 – 6 lead at half time and forcing the South Africans to play catch up for the rest of the match. Whilst the Wild-Dogs had a far more successful second half, highlighting some of their high entrepreneurial skills in scoring their 16 points, they were not able to stop the Windies from recording the victory and winning the inaugural “Boston-Van Vollenhoven Cup”.

In the first half, forward Alex Rowe and Centre Danny Herbet both scored a double for the men from the Caribbean, whilst Dom Peters kicked off his return to representative Rugby League with a four pointer as well.

Danny Mills opened the try scoring in the second half for the Windies, and was then followed by Tony Williams from Huddersfield, Jamie Vernon and Irvin Greenwood to cap off the try scoring spree.

Stand Off, Liam Jarvis kicked 7 from 10 goals to take the side to the half century mark.

WEST INDIES 50
Tries: Alex Rowe 2, Danny Herbet 2, Dom Peters, Danny Mills, Tony Williams, Jamie Vernon, Irvin Greenwood
Goals: Liam Jarvis 7 from 10

a good result by the sound of things. It will be better when some domestic players are in the squad though.

We had Claude Yen from the Jamaica (plays for the Sharks - Kingston) fly over and train with the squad, but last minute injury concerns prevented him from being able to take the field unfortunately.

when will the windies season kick off?
The Jamaica season will kick off around March/Easter time next year.

Are the players all born in West Indies or just through the Grand Parent rule?
Some like Hayden James are born and bred in the Windies and then moved over seas once they got to Adult stage, but all of them were either born there or their parents were (everyone qualifies before Grandparents) and also they have acctually been to the region.

Any figure on the crowd?
Still waiting on official figure from Skolars.
