SA 1/74 - 10 overs

Batting stuffed us up
We should have had Litchfield opening
And for Gardener not to have a bat is a crime
Wareham at 3 is dumb

Congrats to South Africa.

I thought the loss of Healy was going to bite us on the bum.

As much as we have quality across the park and a champion side that doesn't rely on 1 player.

Having Healy out meant losing a captain, keeper & opening bat

Which meant Mooney while being a competent keeper had to move into that role.
Tahlia McGrath while nothing wrong with her leadership the extra responsibility may have been factor in her sluggish innings.

Those little things add up.

No excuses though

Despite the loss the remarkable record in a format that is more unpredictable and doesn't leave much to chance is remarkable. 6 T20 WCs from the last 7 and a Comm Games Gold medal.

A run like that i dont think will ever be matched.

In terms of end of an era Perry and Healy are 34 but we have Litchfield & Sutherland still young enough for the next decade to dominate at international level.

India and England are still chasing our tails in these tournaments despite throwing a lot at us. So i still think success will still be around for little bit but i thought everyone may have closed the gap about 3-4 years ago and we kept winning so who knows.

End of an era?

South Africa win by 8 wickets.

Not sure,

Think our tactics sucked eg Litchfield and Gardener should have been up the order.

We put the brakes on (both McGrath and Mooney), when both Harris and Wareham got out early in the power play (to attacking shots) Harris to a great catch , Wareham a wide ball she should have either let go or despatched. Reminded me of Wadey not being able to reach. Does a proper batter do better? Like Guth94 said about Healy not playing, all these little things add up. Never seen us so tentative, with so many wickets in hand, you could be excused for thinking they were playing a ODI. Wish McGrath got out a lot earlier, maybe the batting and captaincy in such a high pressure match aint for her for now.

We go into conservative mode up to 15 overs, when we should have gone on the attack heck of a lot earlier, Gardener and Sutherland not even batting

Oh well maybe big changes are coming and the Eels will win the comp next year? 😊😝

I agree.

I see Harris as a pinch hitter who should be batting at 5 and Wareham has done a great job in the last 2 or 3 overs of T20 games.

Harris opening is fine. Gardner not even batting is not. But hey, you can't dominate everything forever

NZ cricket's greatest day.

South African cricket meanwhile has the chokers tagged filtering through both men women's teams.

Similar to 2021 in a way with us NZ weren't the favourites got smacked in the group stage and got into the final and with a bit of luck avoided the best team in the final but delivered in the final.
