I think the appearance thing is a big issue for female sports journalists - unfortunately, I think it is true that for females especially, a lot of their television potential is based on what they look like. On the other hand, is anyone really going to take a pretty girl with makeup and high heels seriously as a football reporter?

They dont have to be attractive as they played the game, females and sport combined are a major turn off imo

That's why AFL has female commentators. They supply the bulk of the testosterone.
