1. Anthony Minichello : Rooster haters love to bag this guy, but he is awesome on his day. Along with Carney, the best tackle-breaking back in league. Strong as an ox and a dangerous runner. His only weakness is that he can tend to drop a bomb in very crucial situations, but he has been very solid in that area, partly due to poor kicking games from the opposition.

2. Brian Carney : Perfect package for a winger. Great under the high ball, good defender, great positional play and able to make huge metres from kick returns. The form winger of Rugby League.

3. Martin Gleeson : When he came out here in 2001, he was awful. I thought he was a total dud. I'm still wiping the egg of my face. Outshone Keith Senior easily.

4. Willie Tonga : His defence is a worry, but he has been very good in attack.

5. Luke Rooney : Has not put a foot wrong over the last two years in any form of Rugby League. Unbelievably reliable.

6. Darren Lockyer : The magician....enough said.

7. Brett Kimmorley : Best of a disappointing bunch.

8. Shane Webcke : Still the man to rely on when the shit hits the fan.

9. Terry Newton : He has actually shut his mouth and done the job. Very enthusiastic.

10. Adrian Morley : Enough said.

11. Nathan Hindmarsh : The terminator could not work as hard as Hindy.

12. Andrew Farrell : In the best form of his career. Making up for many lost years of shitdom.

13. Paul Sculthorpe : Tough and skillful.

14. Danny McGuire : Getting better with each performance. A star in the making. Leaves Jonny Wilkinson for dead in terms of ability.

15. Stuart Fieldon : Very good prop, but a tad overated.

16. Paul Rahuhihi : Awesome performances were not recognized, due to the ineptness of his team and Sonny-Bill Williams' ability.

17. Sonny-Bill Williams : The guy will become NZ's most capped player.

World 13- some hard decisions in the Fowards:

1. P. Wellens (GB)
2. L. Rooney (AUS)
3. M. Gleeson (GB)
4. W. Tonga (AUS)
5. B. Carney (GB)
6. D. Lockyer © (AUS)
7. S. Long (GB)
8. P. Rauhihi (NZ)
9. T. Newton (GB)
10. S. Fielden (GB)
11. N. Hindmarsh (AUS)
12. A. Farrell (GB)
13. 14. S.B. Williams (NZ)

14. S. Webke (AUS)
15. R. Asotasi (NZ)
16. P. Sculthorpe (GB)
17. C. Wing (AUS)

Minichello is an excellent attacking fullback, but I can't remember Wellens making a mistake the entire series, gets the nod as he's mistake free and excellent under the high ball.

P. Rauhihi has far more to his game than Webke and is the Dally M prop of the Year.

omg, i can't believe some of the players that have been picked here. Ollee - your team makes me cringe. Terry Newton?! no thanks. Sean Long halfback?! you're kidding. Paul Wellens fullback?! i think there are at least 5 Aussie fullbacks better than him. but yeah, judging him only against Minichiello, then maybe. MAYBE. and these teams need more Willie Mason, he's been fantastic all NRL season and in the Tri-Nations, but it's clear a lot of people have a bone to pick about him 'cos off his off-field antics. here's my World 17:

1. Matt Bowen
2. Luke Rooney
3. Martin Gleeson
4. Willie Tonga
5. Brian Carney
6. Darren Lockyer ©
7. Andrew Johns
8. Willie Mason
9. Craig Wing
10. Paul Rauhihi
11. Adrian Morley
12. Andy Farrell
13. Sonny-Bill Williams

14. Mark O'Meley
15. Nathan Hindmarsh
16. Ali Lautiti
17. Danny Maguire

oddly, there's no real standout for the centre spots, could have picked a number of guys. i haven't seen much of Martin Gleeson, he seems very good, but does he have much raw pace?

You are all wrong about the fullback, Mathers (Leeds) is the best one in GB but he has a wrist injury at the moment. Also Horne is GB's best halfback, but broke his eyesocket and missed out. Hopefully you Aussies & Kiwis will se them in action next year :)

Certainties for GB are Carney, Gleeson, Farrell and particularly Sculthorpe. He would be up there in the nominations for the best player in the world. He is fantastic in both attack and defense and works his ass off too, which many talented players lack the inclination to do. Sonny Boy will be a great player, but isn't even close to Sculthorpe at the moment and won't be for a year or two.

Well Kris Man....I was trying not to be biased in regards to Matty Bowen lol! I was basing the side on the performances within this series. Of course Johns is the best halfback in the world, but he hasn't played rep footy for a while.

I choose Long for his running game in taking on the line and enthusiasm, a gutsy player. Its no coincedence GB looked a little lost in that first half.

In regards to Newton....he's scored at least a couple of try's in the series with his attacking game. Buderous as good a player as he is hasn't shown the same form.

I had forgotten about Mason.....your right I don't like him because of his antics, I guess though his ability should have him somewhere in the 17, maybee in place of Asotasi.

In regards to Gleeson....he is a classic centre, has good strength gives great service to Carney. IMO the best centre in the world.

Lol, some of the choices some people made, made me laugh, but I guess I gotta respect your opinion, Everyone is entitled.... (I was refering to mainly the Sean Long and Terry Newton comments, Terry Newton is great but I think he would be in the top 5).

Mine is very similar to Kris_man:

1. Matt Bowen
2. Brian Carney
3. Mark Gasnier
4. Willie Tonga
5. Luke Rooney - On current form
6. Darren Lockyer
7. Andrew Johns (C)
8. Mark O'Meley
9. Danny Buderus
10. Adrian Morley - On Current form
11. Nathan Hindmarsh
12. Willie Mason
13. Sonny-Bill Williams

14. Paul Rahihi
15. Paul Sculthorpe
16. Craig Wing
17. Danny Maguire

Some I left out:

Andrew Farrell - Honestly I dont see much good from him from the recent games. Not much go forward but defence is good.

Craig Fitzgibbon - Could always do with a workaholic, But I prefer my other choices.

Matt Orford - IMO the second best HB going aroun behind Johns, well probably infront of Johns because of his lack of games.

Matt Utai - Ever since his dreadful Cowboys game, he has improved greatly imo.

Brett Hodgson - I thought he was one of the Stand out players of the year. Definetly seems to have had his best season.

:-k :|

Whats the bemused look for? If its for Sculthorpe being tipped as one of the world's best, forget it. Paul Sculthorpe has outplayed every Australian number 13 he has ever played against and for the last few series has led GB with some truly world class performances. Last week for example he made something like 35 tackles without missing any, 16 hit ups, 137 metres and a try assist!

Carroll on the other hand made 25 tackles missing 3, 4 hit ups and only 33 metres.

Scully IS one of the top 5 players in the world.

If the bemused look is for me saying Williams isn't as good as Sculthorpe it again is right. Williams is a fantastic talent, the Wayne Rooney of Rugby League, but isn't there yet. 5 missed tackles against GB the other week, including two which directly caused GB to score and a general losing of the plot second half. He will get there eventually though, but people expecting any teenager to be the complete package in RL is deluded.

There is life outside the NRL you know.
