Haha comparing Carroll to Sculthorpe is funny, He is no where near Australia's best Lock.

Trent Waterhouse - 28.8 - 2 - 0.1 - 0.3 - 0.8 - 12.1 - 90.6 - 0 - 1.3 - 1.2
Ashley Harrison - 28.1 - 0.8 - 1.5 - 0.3 - 0.7 - 11.7 - 81.8 - 0.8 - 0.8 - 2.4
Luke Ricketson - 31 - 1.1 - 0.1 - 0.1 - 0 - 11.3 - 80.6 - 0.5 - 0.7 - 1.8
Kirk Reynoldson - 25.6 - 1.1 - 0.1 - 0.2 - 0.1 - 13.9 - 99.3 - 0.1 - 0.8 - 1.4
Ben Kennedy - 20.3 - 2.7 - 0.1 - 0.1 - 0.1 - 13.1 - 107.9 - 0.3 - 1.4 - 2.1

Tonnie Carroll - 28.4 - 0.6 - 0 - 0.1 - 0.2 - 8.2 - 66 - 0.3 - 0.4 - 2.5

It goes - Tackle - Offload - Kick - Try Assist - Line Break - Hitup - Metres - Dummy half runs - Errors - Miss Tackles.

Thats how some of the Best Locks stack up.
It clearly shows Carroll Isnt the best one there.

Tough but here's a shot at it:

1. Brett Hodgson - Positional play is the best of any fullback I have seen at the moment

2. Luke Rooney - Amazing talent, deserves a spot.

3. Mark Gasnier - On his day the best centre in the world.

4. Willie Tonga - Too bad Brian but you possibly let one of the best centres in todays game go

5. Marcus Bai - Tough, fast and great finisher.

6. Darren Lockyer - Great vision, great reader of the game, all round the park can create opportunity.

7. Andrew Johns - Obvious choice.

8. Shane Webcke - A real hard man of the game and would be the starting prop for any team in the world. Gives 100% in every hit up.

9. Craig Wing - Explosive off the mark, creative player can cause complete chaos in the minds of the opposition from dummy half with either a chip kick, a quick dart or a nicely timed pass.

10. Adrian Morely - Not affraid to put his body on the line, takes the ball up hard and hits hard in defence. Can even slip into the back row if need be.

11. Nathan Hindmarsh - Non-stop workaholic, never stops tackling, however could hit the ball up a bit more.

12. Andy Farrell - Steady player I would play in the second row in this team. Good go forward, good in defence.

13. Sonny-Bill Williams - The kid is a good player. Can turn games with his strength in both attack and defence. Could possibly play in the centres aswell, but at the back of the scrum could be used in some lethal set plays.

Reserves:

14. Paul Rauhihi - Big man, attracts a lot of attention, diffucult to bring down, great impact in the dying stages of the first and second halves.

15. Barrie McDermott - Another hard tough man of the game. Always need a bit of omph off the benech :p

16. Danny McGuire - Super talent from the UK. The game against the kiwis showed he has the vision and can read the game well.

17. Keith Senior - Good solid player, deserving of a spot on the interchange.

Great mix there imo. And look at the bench - some of the biggest forwards to bring on heaps of impact, as well as the incredible Maguire from the UK. That team would absolutely carve.

3.Mark Gasnier
4.Matt Cooper/Brent Tate
5.Matt Cooper/Brent Tate
6.Trent Barrett
7.Andrew Johns
13.Paul Skulthorpe
12.Craig Fitzgibbon
11.Adrian Morley
10.Willie Mason
9.Danny Buderus

16.Ali Lauititi
17.Stuart Fielden

18.Lesley Vainikolo
19.Mark O`Meley

*From the couple of games i`ve seen him play, young Leeds fullback Richard Mathers looks to be a potential superstar and if he can repeat season `2004 i`m sure he`d have to be included, pushing Locker back to 5/8!

i left Fielden out on purpose - i've been watching him closely this series 'cos of the Raiders rumours, and he seems OK, but he's been outplayed by most of the other nations' props, namely Paul Rauhihi, Shane Webcke, Roy Asotasi, Mark O'Meley and Willie Mason.

Paul Sculthorpe better than Sonny-Bill?! are you serious? :| he didn't miss any tackles - no great feat, there are heaps of players who do that all the time, Michael Hodgson being one of them :D . he's a top player, but for mine he just misses out on the top 17.

Brent Tate - i forgot about him. last year, he'd be in the starting centre without blinking an eyelid, but he was a bit (just a bit) off his game in '04 due to his injury.

Although I'm a Bulldogs fan, lets see how SBW is next year. Scully is consistantly brilliant while Sonny could be nothing but a one year wonder.

Kimmo shouldn't be in the side and Webke should just retire already. Move along Gramps

Williams obviously has amazing potential, and if he lives up to it he will be a leged, but at the moment he is not at the same level as Sculthorpe plays at consistently.

if you think Sonny-Bill has been anything other than dynamic, then i think you've been watching the wrong player. i'm not trying to say that he will have an overall better career than Sculthorpe, it's irrelevant, 'cos he's good now, and that's the only time frame i'm conderned with. Williams might be a one year wonder, but this too is irrelevant - i couldn't give two hoots what happens next year, 'cos it hasn't happened yet.

and i was being kind to Great Britain anyway, 'cos Maguire might be a good player, but he's nothing on Orford, Kimmorley or several other Aussie halves.

On Tri nations form...

1. Minichello - just. Wellens has been good also.
2. Carney - Very good considering, as Eddie Hemmings has mentioned 442,000 times "8 weeks ago, he couldn't walk"
3. Gleeson - If only to play inside Carney...they have worked really well together and he has proved to me he is a far better player than I first thought
4. Tonga - Has been good, am hoping Locky can give him some space like in Origin. he will light the place up
5. Rooney - As good a finisher as anyone
6. Lockyer - Even injured, head and shoulders above other options.
7. Kimmorley - Joey must be thinking he will make his way back in to this side easily enough. Orford would have been a better option.

8. Rauhihi - Stepped up last game. Obviously responded to leadership job
9. Buderus - Needs more game time, but has been reliable when on
10. Fielden - Has impressed. Has made yards every game
11. Mason - One of the few forwards going around that looks like making a break most tiems in posession
12. - Hindmarsh - unstoppable work rate
13. Sculthorpe - Solid if at times unspectacular. has a solid all round game

14. O'Meley - Looked dangerous in first test. Ran hard and aggressive, never gives into tackles.
15. Lauititi - Awesome ball player with size and surprising pace...ESL is agreeing with him
16. SBW - Can do it all already
17. Wing - has added something each time he has come on. Seen as a true danger at this level now

I just reckon it's great that the World 17 isn't dominated by Aussies so much anymore.

Fullback, Carney, Gleeson, Tonga, Rooney, Lockyer, Halfback, Sculthorpe, SBW, Fitzgibbon, Fielden, Buderus, Webcke RES: Wing, Mason, Morley, O'Meley.

the bench is contentious, I'd accept a couple of others there. Thre's no standout at fullback, Hoggiciello makes too many crucial errors for mine, Wellens is safe but slow as a wet week. With the dearth of quality centres, Gleeson looks alright and Tonga had a magical season. Without Joey, the halfback cupboard is bare particularly with Kimmorley not at his best. Fitz beat Hindmarsh by a bee's dick, Buderus' form is down after a long season and playing with injury but he's still the best, Webcke's glittering career is winding down but he's still worth a spot and I picked the bench for impact. Ra went very close. As a Cowboys fan, he's probably my favourite player but I recognise his lack of mobility in defence and his loose off-loads at times. There's no better yardage man in the game.

I don't see what the tri-nations have proven, except that this is a poorly selected and (Hindmarsh apart) tired looking Australian side.

A true World 17 would look more like this:
Minichello
Carney
Gasnier
Cooper (I dunno what Bennet's thinking, really)
Rooney
Lockyer
Johns
Webcke
Buderus (anyone picking Newton, give yourself an upper cut)
Bailey
Hindmarsh
Mason
Williams

Res
O'Meley
Fielden
Sculthorpe
Wing
