Agree. I look forward to early mornings this weekend and Melbourne are not even playing! Then again St. Helens are!

There was a push to have it in Melbourne in 2013 when it was a stand alone fixture and the NRL in their infinite wisdom said no. Not sure how Easts managed to wrangle it to the SFS the following year but the NRL gave up a sure fire way to promote the game in Melbourne!

How bloody stupid of the NRL, just goes to show their mentality when it comes to promoting the game outside of NSW

I'm not so sure that the English teams have the overall better record but could stand corrected and I can't be bothered looking it up.

english teams have won it 12 times. aussie teams have won it 10 times, although the aussie teams have won it 4 out of the last 5 years.

Of course the English club has every advantage going their way usually with travel, climate, the fact they are in season etc..

yeah and they only should every second year

In 2014 the Sydney Roosters played and defeated Wigan, not St Helens.

So many contributors to this forum have not a clue even about events in the recent past.

That is the a 2014 photo of players from Sydney Roosters and Wigan, not St Helens. That is because Sydney Roosters played Wigan, not St Helens, in 2014.

Sydney Roosters played St. Helens in 2003, and they will play St. Helens in 2016, which is this year.

that's ok. they win quite a lot when it's over there

Over here it is just a glorified trial against sub par competition, over there it would actually be exciting for RL fans to see some of the best players and teams in the world with their own clubs a chance of winning. bringing SL teams here does nothing to promote the game here, so whats the point? If the NRL clubs are happy to go then let it be in England where it might actually have some benefit to the game.

the point is it gives an opportunity to the supporters of the nrl premiers to watch their team play in a world club championship match. it's not going to hurt the sport having it in australia every second year, and i see it more than a "glorified trial" and i'm sure others do too. having the game played 2 weeks after the nrl grandfinal might make others see it as more significant than a "glorified trial" too

Will never happen. Call it whatever you want it is still an out of season game against sub par competition.

Not to mention the SL team would have to leave old Trafford go straight to Manchester airport and fly here. Yeah it's never going to happen.

I think D Smith had a vision where the two comps were aligned and shorter to allow for a international club competition. He would have seen the benefits of comps like UEFA cup, Chamions league and Heineken cup and want some of that for RL. Sadly we are back to dinosaurs running the game whose height of ambition is to tinker with the NSW cup.

That 1994 Wigan side that beat Brisbane is the best club line up I have ever or will ever see. The 1994 Raiders might give them a run for their money but Wigan were class one through 17!

They racked up some amazing talent, I think the 1992 CC side was probably their best, what a back line this was!

Dinosaurs who realise there is not enough competition or interest in anything like you have mentioned. Champions league? Really? That would be sooo good for RL.

Our sport has two good professional leagues and one is way ahead of the other and they are half a world apart but yeah we should really be trying to put together a champions league

and yet Roosters got one of their biggest home crowds in the last decade for what is effectively a pre season friendly against Wigan?

It was the first time it had been here for 20 years or something. 31k is a good crowd but if they were here every year or 2nd year I doubt the crowds would be very good at all. They also had SBW who is a big draw.

Do you actually think multiple teams would travel that distance multiple times in a year? or do you just want a glorified wcc that takes place after the season? It just isn't feasible with the distances involved.
