World Cup 2017 in Aus/NZ + Fiji/Samoa Test

The 4 nations qualifier started in 2009, PNG won the Pacific Cup that year, then the following year Wales won the European Cup.

Fiji and Samoa were the next ranked after the big 3 in the World Cup.

I think its a good idea playing it in Sydney, as either nation will play in Australia anyway, good way to promote the 4 nations.

There should be a pacific cup every 1 or 2 years. Why the hell havnt we had one since 2009?

And are there any plans for png, tonga, Cook Islands and the USA this year, or will they be forgotten about and then expected to have improved in 2017 at the wc?

I think Australia should have 1 game in each of the major capital cities (assuming they make the final).

Opening Ceremony, Semi and Final spread between Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane. Which city gets which games based on strategy and the bids each City/stadium presents.

Then the 2 other pool games and quarter final spread between Perth, Adelaide and Canberra.

No reason why most if not all couldn't sell out.

Its a real shame that the Fiji vs Samoa game is not being played in Suva. Imagine the response this game would get there and with the problems the Fijian RU are having it would have been a timely boost for RL in Fiji. I don't know who made the decision to play it in Western Sydney but again another example of our short-sightedness as a sport.

Well the USA will have their usual games with Canada and Jamaica won't they?
PNG will play PM XIII
Who knows about the others.

As for the World Cup I'd have:
Opening Ceremony - Suncorp Stadium
Australia pool games: Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth
New Zealand pool games: Eden Park, Christchurch, Wellington
Other pool games: SFS, Parramatta, Penrith, Wollongong, Gosford, Newcastle, Canberra, Gold Coast, Townsville, North Harbour, Hamilton, Waikato, Port Moresby.
Quarters: Newcastle, SFS, Christchurch, Canberra
Semis: Brisbane, Wellington
Final: Eden Park

Christchurch will probably depend on whether their new stadium is built on time. If it isn't then most of the big games will go to Dunedin.

Aren't Crusaders currently using a smaller stadium around 18,000 capacity? NZ could play a smaller team there, and no reason why their quarter final couldn't be held there. If not another QF involving possibly Tonga or Samoa.

I think that ground is now known as AMI Stadium, (like Lancaster Park was previously) apparently used to be called Rugby League Park and I think it was initially a temporary ground until Lancaster was fixed but it looks a pernament ground for Christchurch.

The Dunedin ground looks good on TV after watching the Warriors trial.

The location of the final will probably be very dependent on the draw.
Whoever gets the easiest semi final will most likely get a home final, as they are the most likely team to succeed.
If NZ have to play England in the semis than Australia will probably get the home final,
And if Australia has to play England in the semis NZ will probably be given the home final.

Idk what would happen if England got the easy semi and Aus had to play NZ, but it would probably lean towards Australia given the current ledger

They couldn't organise the tournament and book two final venues. If it worked out that none of the finalists came from the same country as the venue then it's just hard luck. We managed a record international RL crowd for the 2013 WC final involving two teams, neither of whom came from the UK.

So I assume there is no more news to come out of the rlif meeting here last week? All they announced was the predicable hosts of the next World Cup and a Fiji v Samoa match. Judging on previous years, we will have a lull for 3 years and then expect countries such as france, tonga, Italy & USA to have kicked on from 2013. What happened to the announcement of the lions tour in 2015, French tour to nz, pacific cup etc? What happened to the proposed nz origin that couldn't be organised in time last year but was meant to happen this year? Do we even know the four nations dates and locations for this year?

And I don't see how a NZ Origin is the RLIF's problem.

I'm guessing France and Italy will play their usual European tournaments and USA will play against Canada and Jamaica like they do every year. Of course the Pacific Nations should get some more competition but we know how hopeless our leaders in the Southern Hemisphere are at organising Internationals.

Yeh sorry, england will never get the easy final.
Whoever has England in their Group will (most probably) get the easy semi final, and will probably get the home final.
They'd have the most likely outcome of the draw in mind when planning the venues.

I'm guessing representatives from 3 countries got on the piss for a week, decided on the next World Cup over lunch and had a good night out at the world club challenge. I don't know, there are usually heaps of announcements after they meet, we need to build on the momentum from the WC.
