Cowboys tried it this year.

Notably failed against Souths in the regular season and Parra in the prelim.

They attempted to play field position and back their defence. However they were wet tissue paper rather than a brick wall.

The Chad is not Nathan.

That said they might be a little closer next year.

The reason we changed the rules due to wrestle was everyone was doing it, Despite this Storm still were very successful.

The same will happen here, This core still has another couple of premierships in them. Though yes a few teams will get to that level

We all like Critta but he is not worth anything like $1M a season even if playing fullback. Offer him $600K and if he wants more perhaps to play fullback see you later. Then May to centre and Turuva to wing.

Journos like to throw around $1m but realistically how many players are on that? Let alone fullbacks?

That is the way RL goes, Comes to big games and ruck speed gets slower and just ordinary

As for Cleary, People know I like Stats to back up the eye test

1 try assist and 600 kick metres in a tight low scoring game is decent enough, That is the norm for big games like that. Very rarely does a side blow the other off the park
This is where stats get silly; if you are giving Cleary a try assist for the pass to Murray that will do me. He had good involvement in the Holmes try but any assist should go to Simple Jack.

NRL.com does the last pass only

Fox sports are better but aren't doing stats

Possibly the try to Holmes? Cleary possibly got a linebreak assist for that. He hit the right player to help create the try. But the assist would be from Wighton.

NRL app has the only stats I have seen.

Cleary stats:
174m gained (3rd highest for the team, in a game where metres were difficult to come by)
5 tackle breaks (2nd highest behind Teddy)
2 linebreak assists (most of any Aussie)

Teddy had the most metres. Yeo was second highest. Cleary did what was required in a game with no playmaking room. He took the line on and tried to create stuff off quick play the balls giving them a retreating defensive line. Something that doesn't show up on stats but that we know Ivan likes his halves to do.

For Samoa it would be like the 2006 soccer world cup was for Aus fans.

Outside hope of doing anything but any success is amazing.

it's a shame this WC is in England now - Samoa fever is running through the region here in Western Sydney let alone everywhere else - this is the best thing for International Rugby League :)

that said - if the Samoa forwards get dominated - game is done unfortunately

Samoa should watch the replay off aus nz semi, speed off your line in defence and hold down as long as you can before getting pinned for a 6 again. If you let aus dominate the ruck and get a quick play the ball then there speed outwide will punish you.Hope its a close game spewing its on at 3am aus time that is an insult to all the fans in aus.

Samoa would never get away with what New Zealand did.

They're a minor nation. They won't be allowed to play the same way New Zealand and England are allowed to. Or Australia.

I think they would tire out trying to play that way against Australia anyway.

Yep, in the 2020 season the ref hammered Penrith against the Storm early on in the streak.

Two months later and through to now the whistle was kept in the pocket for the exact same play style.

Perceived powerhouses get a massive leg up on discretionary ref calls.
