How much impact would Rugby League have on some of these overseas pilgrims spending the week in Sydney and attending NRL matches they have probably never seen?

Last night I went to brooky and saw some Germans and Americans who looked like they enjoyed themselves after the game. I mean the crowd was great with a packed house but I wonder what they thought of the game?

What a shame though some idiot supporters booed when they announced over the PA that there's pilgrims from WYW attending the match. I mean wake up to yourselves you idiots, theyre not doing anything wrong.

Shame more NRL clubs haven't taken advantage of their pressence in Sydney. Rabbitohs offered them cheap entry for the game against the Eels, and ended up getting about 1,500 into the ground.

Hopefully the Sharks get some good numbers tonight. All League needs is for one to suddenly become hooked on the sport and suddenly you've got your next David Niu or Paul Morris.

AT WIN Stadium on Sunday around 20 yankee pilgrims sitting next to the Raiders Army started to join in and had a great time.

One of them who had purchased a saints jersey cracked the poos, took it off and started joining in the frivolity......plenty of other people in red and white who wish they could have done the same....

This is not about religion, it's about sharing the RL experience with people from countries with little RL exposure.

As people here have said, this was a golden opportunity for the NRL in it's 100th year to promote the game to an international audience and big-note itself to the plethora of foreign guests currently taking over Sydney. Some clubs have taken it upon themselves to get their name out there, but the game itself has brushed it. Sydney 2000 Olympics was an even better promotional opportunity. The game could have gotten itself a 'demonstration sport' spot, but again did bugger all. Meaning the hundreds of thousands of foreign visitors and the millions/billions of people watching the Olympics in their own lounge rooms around the globe had no idea Sydney was a Rugby League city.

I wonder if the NRL even realises a high percentage of it's supporters have little confidence in it's ability ... and do they care? Idiots.

See comments like this are really misguided. The NRL acctually offered to cover the cost of any tickets given away for free to the Pilgrims and gave an additional top up to the clubs marketing budgets to help push the games to this market.

Some like the Rabbtiohs and Sea Eagles were very proactive with it, others like the Sharks just expected them to turn up.

As for the Sydney Olympics, here is a fact Rugby League, as with AFL and rugby Union all applied to play exhibition matches during the tournament, and the State Government not only said no, but passed legistation at the time preventing any major sport from playing such games in Sydney during the tournament.

How about we get some facts before just putting the boot in?
