Worst recovery

I wonder which team in history has the worst recovery after losing the GF or just missing the GF, and the next year they have an ordinary season?

I know Souths were minor premiers in 1989, lost only 3 games, but lost semi finals to Balmain and Canberra to miss out on a Grand Final. Then in 1990 they came last, I think they only won 4 games.

Dragons lost the Grand Final in 1999, but were ordinary in 2000, they got beat 70-10 by the premiers Melbourne, Mundine left, they missed the finals, the only positive was Trent Barrett won the Dally M.

Any others that were worse?

Manly 1997. It all went down hill after that.

To make it worse we were grand finalists three years running, 95 - 97 and then the wilderness. However, we were never as bad as pre-Gladiator Souths.

I know their final year was 1983 and I think they were second last, not sure where they came in 1982, but definately missed the finals.

I think Newtown takes the cake going from grand finalists to extinction in the space of 2 years.

Wests won the spoon the year after winning the comp in 52. Pretty hard to top that.

Also won the premiership the year after winning the spoon 33-34.

St George made the grand final in all three grades in 1985.
In 1986 all three grades missed the semis.

I know it is SL, but Hunter Mariners got to the world challenge GF, lost it and was kicked out of the comp.

In terms of overall dive, Newtown surely beat Souths.
