Remember Steve Clark sending McKinnon off st nz for leading with the knees. Wasn't even remotely close he just hadon't left his penalty ridden stench all over the match yet

Yes.

Was a one on one tackle, dived at the legs, ball carrier got hurt. Put on report and a penalty.

OMG

What has this game become!

I actually miss leg tackles, they used to be an exciting part of the game, especially a covering tackle.

I think he considered it a dangerous cannonball style tackle that hit the knees first. Video shows initial contact was a fraction higher so he will not be charged. At full speed it could easily have been seen as a hit to the knees. I've seen far worse ref calls than that one.

Oh dear.

I actually have no other words than above.
As the OP stated, this has to be up the with the worst call ever.
But, then again it is Perenara.....

Gavet launched at Munsters knees. Fair penalty

Typical of a Storm fan to not understand the rules. Firstly, he hit him in the thighs. Secondly, it's a cannon ball if the player is being held by two blokes and the third man dives in at the knees.

Worst penalty of all time, frankly. Never seen anything remotely like it. The crowd gave it to the ref like I have never heard at Mt Smart before.

Anasta conceding a penalty for being punched by David Fa'alogo was pretty bad, and then Anasta getting sin-binned later in the same game for a "swinging arm" was also a howler. They'd be two of the worst I can think of.

This one today was up there though. Perenara is an A grade wanker.
You're off your head!

There is simply no rule that allows this to be a penalty.

I agree it's the actual worst ever penalty. f**king joke.

Nah the game's not going soft. All good guys.

If Perenara wanted Melbourne to win so badly he could've pinged Shaun for 5 head high tackles he ignored rather than penalise a perfectly legal tackle

The matt gillett penalty and sin bin against the dragons a few years back still remains the worst penalty of all time, and that's from someone who hates the broncos and thinks they deserve every bad call that goes against them

I see your Perenara decision and raise you a Maxwell game.
The bloke absolute refused to let the Saints v Souths game flow, and what should have been an entertaining match ended up with so many moments of boredom.

Purely because he can't go a moment without being the centre of attention....

To be fair the players from both sides got the handbags out at every chance and tried to spark an incident. Not even close ton windbag penalised for making a tackle around the thigh. Maxwell is utter shit tho as a referee.

Ah he didn't blow the penalty until after the replay was shown, so that excuse is a load of shit.

Anasta one was fair enough. He was grappling or had him in a head lock or something. Penalty was given for the dangerous tackle. Then faalongo got up and hit him and as such got himself binned.

If anasta doesn't do the dangerous tackle there is no incident. You don't give a penalty against the bigger infringement, you give it against the first one and deal with any escalations after.

Worst Call Ever? The disallowed try of Paul Smith in the 1991 Grand Final. Nothing else I've ever seen comes close.

Do they have any copies of the NRL rulebook out there, PR

Definitely the most confusing dangerous tackle call I can think of.

For worst though.. Hard to go past the time Gillett was sin binned for being offside, even though he was 40m onside.

I was there. Was the only good moment in that game.

Just saw the tackle. What a load of shit. If a bloke goes down hurt seems it's an automatic penalty

Haha that truly was one of the stupidest moments in the history of rugby league refereeing
