Worst Teams Ever

Follow up from the minor premiership one. A couple of people requested it and I was actually contemplating it myself.

A few notes, like the minor premiership thread i have based these all on points and point differential. I know that isn't completely accurate I am not entirely sure when points differential came in but they were still listing the table alphabetically in 1988.

A few sides in the last part have been losing finalists rather than Grand Finalists these games occurred before 1954 when Grand finals became mandatory. I just put Grand Finalists to indicate they lost the final game or Grand final to the season and thus came 2nd after the finals series.

Also teams are ranked by there minor premiership position Penrith coming 2nd in 1989 etc.

Bloody interesting post.

For the worst sides ever, I would say in semi-professional times, the 1966 Easts side - didn't win a game, or pre that - Sydney University - some of the years when they were in the SRL comp.

Yeah whilst Easts didn't win a game in 66 they turned it around quickly under Jack Gibson. A couple of other sides went a whole season without winning a match either but I forget who University might be one.

Personally I think the Parramatta side from 57-60 were the least competitive side in history. They were bottom of the table for 64 rounds out of 72 which is quite shocking really.

South Queensland Crushers too were bottom of the table for over a third of their existence and Annandale were terrible also.

Annandale were bottom for 68 rounds out of 140 which is pretty awful also.

South Queensland Crushers too were bottom of the table for over a third of their existence and Annandale were terrible also.

Yeah, that why I put the semi-professional as a prerequite in.

Are you able to provide the percentage figures - totals/years in the comp? I think Sydney Uni will clearly lead (taking out the Crushers, Seagulls etc due to their short life span)

I can only be bothered doing the worst 4 if that is alright. I divided how many weeks at the bottom compared to rounds played.

Annandale - 48.22%
University - 47.32%
South Queensland - 36.36%
Gold Coast - 30.73%

I think your way Annandale would still be the worst 12 times in 10 years compared to University 17 in 18 years.

I would put any team caught massively rorting the salary cap as the worst team ever: 2003 Bulldogs, 2007 & 2009 Storm.

Bahahaha they were a rabble years before he even was remotely connected to them. Wooden spoon, drug and financial crisis. The Gold Coast is a sporting failure. Every team there has been a failure.
