I'd have given it back. It sucks when you're counting the cash in the register at the end of the night, cause if a substantial sum of money it missing, or money goes missing regularly, fingers get pointed, and someone usually gets the sack. $46 may not seem like a lot of money, but it all adds up in the long run.

we were out last night, and we ordered some drinks at the bar. the bill was 20.65. we gave her a 20, but then we said hold on we'll give you 65 cents (so we could get a straight 10 change). she says im not taking it unless its my tip. we had a little arguement with her and eventually we told her off and walked away

Would give it back. Realising you've buggered up when you're counting the till is a much stronger and worse feeling than the cockiness of realising you've pocketed wrong change. Saves someone else some grief at the sacrifice of not very much.

And having been in the position of manager of a store it is a horrible feeling... the staff member may have to explain their lapse of correct actions to you.. but you usually have to explain it to the big boss and that sux
