Interesting that Vaihu has been moved to the backrow, hes been going very well at cente

Happy they've finally put Tannous back in the halves, ive always preferred him there to 9

Surprised more of the Flegg guys havent moved up. Sakuru, Lauilili, Faguatu (Wests) and Kaanan (Balmain) should be there as a minimum

There could be a tonne of reasons why there are changes at Flegg level. No one knows about injuries as they're not reporting to the media. They're at the mercy of the two grades above too.

With a spare half an hour over lunch, I've noticed heaps of changes in every flegg squad each week. Canterbury even replace their whole match-day team. Gus must have bought a football farm!

End of the day, a good club realises that they're not necessarily in it to win Cup, Flegg, Ball, & Mattys comps. That's a bonus. The main objective is identifying players who have talent and ensuring they receive the correct development to play NRL.

The 3 junior comps are probably the most skewed theyve ever been with all moving up a year or two due to COVID. Flegg is U21s is too high, needs to come back to 20, or even 19. For instance in 2021 our Flegg team was undefated when the comp stopped after 12 rounds, however not one has gone onto play first grade. Any good 20, 21 year old is playing nsw cup as a minimum. So if anything if Flegg side is going well but full of 20/21 year olds its actually a sign that your 19-21 year olds arent progressing as they should be. Justin Matamua could play Flegg for another 2 years FFS

A few reasons for the change.

SG Ball as u18s meant top-age players were in their HSC year. Although the transition from Matts to Ball is generally seamless, many guys don't go beyond SG Ball so relieving this pressure on top age players to perform in a big academic year, while most likely also playing school league/union was logical thinking. Top age is now 19.

Just like the step from Ball to Flegg sees lots of players lost to the game, so does Flegg to part-time Cup. Putting age groups back a year keeps players in the game longer, i.e, to 21 rather than 20.

There was talk about it changing it for a while. Gus Gould went on about it all the time while he was at Penrith. COVID was the event that made NSWRL pull the trigger.

FYI Tallyn Da Silva has been named on the extended bench for 1st grade this week.
Could get game time if Korosau doesnt back up good from Origin

Was hoping you came on, what do you know about him, he must be doing something right to get called into the FG squad.

Out of the last seasons Harold Matts winning team this guy in my opinion would be the 1st to make his 1st grade debut. Didnt think it would be this quick though. Maybe hes named so he can train with them and prep for the week. Hes a great hooker that can control the ruck with the way he holds up his passes to his targets and his organising skills.

His time will come but I think he should have a couple of games in reserves first

This was on Instagram:
Da Silva is a young talent dummy half started the year off playing in SG ball where he tore up the league. He has now featured in 11 #SGBall & #JerseyFlegg games this year, scoring tries in 10 of them.

Obviously, the higher he goes, the harder it will get, but it looks like a promising start?

Ive always gone with the thought process in any sport if you are good enough then you are old enough. But in this case hes about to turn 18 or has just turned 18, still growing and plays in the front row, i think some more games in Flegg and a couple in KOE would of been a better way to go. Im sure he can handle it but its a huge huge step up from SG to Flegg then 1st grade
