the cynic in me thinks releasing this news 2 days out from the season resumption was intended

To be fair, the sample was taken in November, there is no guarantees that they get tested straight away. ASADA can store samples for up to 10 years. No guarantees of a WADA-accredited lab being available to test over the new years period.

Don't go for conspiracy theories - this is Xerri being a knob.

Also I would not be surprised if the labs that the tests would normally be done at might have been used for other more urgent public health purposes (e.g. testing samples for COVID-19).
