The Bulldogs and Mitsubishi Electric Australia Combine Forces in 2003 to confirm the largest sponsorship in the Bulldogs’ history.
“Under the name of the Mitsubishi Electric Bulldogs, the Bulldogs joins forces with a recognised, internationally successful organization,” says the Bulldogs’ CEO, Steve Mortimer.
“The Bulldogs is very pleased to have the innovation and competitiveness of Mitsubishi Electric behind our campaign for this year’s NRL. Their support not only bodes well for our team, but is a great asset to the sport of rugby league and the large community that it impacts,” continues Mortimer.
“The Mitsubishi Electric Bulldogs team has a big task ahead of them this season. With a renewed commitment to the players, fans, sponsors and media this year will be the most professional and forward thinking team in the competition. Now with the support of Mitsubishi Electric achieving our goal is made that much easier. I am excited about the team we have. All players know they are a part of something new and progressive. They are committed to what will surely be, a memorable season in 2003,” Mortimer enthuses.
“Mitsubishi Electric is committed to contributing to the success of the Bulldogs team as well as contributing to the community, its youth and the growth of rugby league,” says Mitsubishi Electric Managing Director, Mr Yasuji Baba.
“Also, by contributing to the communities where we live and work Mitsubishi Electric believes that by making significant contributions to our communities that we not only focus on advancing science and technology but that we also have a commitment to supporting sports, culture and social welfare in general,” Mr Baba highlights.
“The common goal that both the Bulldogs and Mitsubishi Electric share of being committed to “Changes for the better” makes this partnership ideal. It is a partnership that derives from two organisations that regard determination, excellence in performance and integrity as prerequisites to success,” concludes Mortimer.
Commencing at 7:30PM on 15 March, the Bulldogs will officially kick-off their 2003 NRL season by playing the Rabbitohs in the NRL First Round ‘Double Header’ at Telstra Stadium.

Mitsubishi obviously have no morals. I will boycott their products.

When I heard Macquarie Bank were in cahoots with dogs I immediatley shut up shop with them.It was a pain in the arse but I felt better for it and I let them know exactly why I did it.

Interesting news Moffo... nice pic :D.
How many names do the Berries have now? ;)

Mitsubushi is a huge company offcourse.
Last year, theirvehicle manufacturingdivision recently copped a huge government handout to keep their car plant open. They said if the government didnt cough up the millions, they would be forced to shut down their Australian operations... but not before sacking thousands of workers. The government relented and bailed them out.

It wouldn't be so interesting except that its not the first time the Australian tax payer has become underwriter for the multi-national company. Mitsubishi pulled off the same scam 12 months earlier.

Mate, we all know that Mitsubishi were one of the bigger companies in Asia, and the district has been going through turmoil since the Asian Crisis of 1997. They were looking to cut back, and paid very close attention to their operations in Australia, where they do lag a long way behind the likes of Holden, Ford and Toyota. Scam?? I don't know about that, i just thought it was Mitsubishi being business savvy and looking after their $$$

Would you rather them have pissed off and left thousands of Australians in the lurch without a job? The Gov't were stuck between a rock and a hard place

We are still the Bulldogs. Mitsubishi Bulldogs? Has a ring to it lol You think Yasuji is ready to become a big fan?? lol

And the Pic is nice indeed ;)

The govt is throwing good money after bad on that one Moffo...Mitsubishi could have called on their other divisions to help out but they business is a game and the government wasn't willing to call their bluff. They should have stood up to them. You might be interested to know that Mitsubishi is also losing money their industrial products divison as well.Good onCanterbury for getting some back from the corporate guys... :)just hopeif the cheques don't bounce. ;)

BTW, it'll be the Mitsubishi Electric Bulldogs....
The MEBs - now thats what I call classy!

We got Turvey on board, honesty and purity in all transaction guaranteed!

Interesting to hear they are losing money on industrial products actually. But once again, the great majority goes into Asia, and we all know how far they have floated up shit creek in the last half a decade.

How about the people who would've lost their jobs? I think that is what the gov'twas really worried about. And im guessing that the payout from the Gov't to Mitsubishi was around the same time that Ansett, HIH and OneTel went bust, effectively costing thousands of people jobs. It would have only compounded the problem. Wouldn't have been near an election as well, would it? lol

Carn the MEBs!

They won't be called that each game. Its just promotional crap. When they run on the field it will still be the dogs

"Wouldn't have been near an election as well, would it?"
I think you hit the nail on the head there, Moffo. The Govt wasnt in much of a bargaining position and Mitsubishi knew it.

Offcourse they will argue that the car division and electric division are two different sections and its true that a certain amount of autonomy exists within the budget structures.

btw, I mean, Industrial products as opposed to Domestic products, I'm assuming Mitsubishi Electric is the domestic division...home appliances etc (?)
Some Mitsubishi Factory appliances are now non-existent in Australia. When the shit hit the fan in the Australian manufacturing industries,Mitsubishi productswere one of the first to go.

You'll have to find a new team song to coincide with this momentus occasion...
Needs something that rhymes with We are the MEBs.. we aint no....Plebs?
or
We are the MEBs.. we've watched the Fleggs?
or
We are the MEBs.. we're proud aussie lebanese?
aahh yes, got it...
There ya go... I look forward to hearing that on match day. :D

Moffo, my guess is Turvey sold Mitsubishi everything but the kitchen sink and the Mitsubishi electric Bulldogs sounds very cheesy to me.

For mine, they still aren't ouor of the woods and with former disgraced board members tanding for re-election for spots ont he football club board, there must be some great fringe benefits for Mitsubish because from where I stand, they definitely have the upper hand.

In short, the Bulldogs sold their soul just to show they are still marketable.

Sold their souls? Come on, most sides in the NRL have a major sponsor. Have they all sold their souls as well? The Integral Dragons, the Alinta Gas Rabbitohs, are they any different? Why didn't people jump on the Rabbits, when just 24hrs before the dogs announcement, they came out proclaiming the 'Alinta Gas Rabbitohs'?? They won't be called that throughout the year, i mentioned it earlier, just like none of the other sides are known by their major sponsor. Love em or hate em, they will have a lot of publicity this year. They are permiership favourites forpete's sake. It would be like the LA Lakers or Man United not having sponsors

The disgraced board members won't get re-elected. Id like to put a house on that, all the power players that corrupted the club are gone. The old boys club was torn apart a few months ago, they won't be back.

"We are the MEBs.. we're proud aussie lebanese?"

Bloody brilliant mate! Im sure all the dawgs and boyzzzzzzzzzzzzzz on the hill will get into that. Actually, they will prolly think its aight and dig it.

They change the name of the whole comp most years depending on who shells out for the naming rights, I cannot see a problem with a team following suit.
How much is the sponsorship worth per annum? I am yet to see a figure, I have been told it is substantial however.
