Ahh Quigs

Lummy was a drinking buddy of the old man. I got my first jersey off Lummy. It was a Souffs jersey!!

I still remember him potting long range goals for souffs. Old toe poaks. The ones too hard for Ekka.

Love the stories about Lummy too.

Loved a beer more then he did training. Clive told him to get serious. etc etc.

So it was your old man that was Lummys downfall.

Was your old man a Souffs man Frenz.?

Cheers

ok due to the massive amount of debate this thread has caused :sleeper: and my overwhelming desire to be recognised on this forum :D i thought i might take this in the other direction. so with what we know of recruitment and the players we have available for next year i am 99% totally sure that ive got no farkin idea what stuart is going to do with the team next year, but im going to have a guess at what i think he'll do. i think this will be the 17 man team, barring injuries and suspensions, he will settle on after experimentation with combinations and so on.

1. kearney
2. simmons
3. pomeroy
4. anderson
5. wright
6. barrett
7. seymour
8. ross
9. hughes
10. douglas
11. gallen
12. tupou
13. bird

14. snowden
15. williams
16. selmes (maybe.... think we are still missing a front rower with some experience)
17. green

any thoughts or am i :BDH:

I do like the team, there is a number of positional questions I have regarding our players for next year though.
1/ Can Wright kick?, and if so very well?, also can he catch?
2/ Can Anderson still play centre?
3/ Why not just play Green exclusively at hooker?, once again purely due to potential, by the end of the year will he not be better than Hughes?, furthermore, happy to see him used in the team before Cu2, (who I reckon is crap)
4/ Simmons back on the wing, bring it on, this is where he has by far played his' best football (and he has put size on since than), he is hopeless at centre
5/ Is there any way to push any of our second rowers up to props full time?, you would think the only 2 that could be considered are Gallen and Tupou (did Tupou play some prop earlier in his' career?) Thinking if they could get away with all of the above, we could get rid of Selmes and use Millington instead (who I think will be a great player)

The only problem I see with the above team is that generally there is no significant addition of pace added to the back line but if they use one of the second rowers as a prop that would make the team a more mobile anyway?

What are peoples thoughts about the best team for next year?, and also the above?

Matt Wright is an excellant finisher and goal kicker. Having seen him play since he was 14, I can genuinely say the kid has talent and is a first grader.

He is kind of like a hybrid of Mick Jennings and Mick Gordon. Jenning's footwork, but maybe a little less...and Gordon's reliability. He is very very good..believe me...and if he continues going great guns as he is in Under 20's this season, he will find himself in contention for FG very soon at the Sharks.

He was Quigs. He was school captain at Marist Brothers Randwick. If I was expected to follow in those footsteps he'd of been disappointed

He saw the light though. Moved to the Shire, ditched Souffs in time (though I think there is still a soft spot there) and in time became a life member of the old Taren Point Pointers and the CSDJRLFC.

Lummy once bought a bottle of blue bow lemonade and a packet of Smiths chips out to the car to me and my sister. Why? Because the old man was in the Cauliflower hotel holding more piss than a catheter bag. Lummy was probably supposed to be at training.

Ahh the days they were.

1. wright is an excellent goal kicker and has taken over the kicking duties in every team he has played in, including rep games. he can jump and is safe under the high ball, he has genuine speed and pace, he has excellent evasive skills and is very strong at his age, this kid has it all. he can play wing, centre or fullback but he will play wing when he breaks into firsts.

2. anderson can definately play centre and will be a better centre or winger after his run in the back rowthis year, his game has improved out of sight all over the park.

3. i would have green playing the full 80 at hooker but i know ricky loves a hooker on the bench so thats what im predicting he will do.

4. we have alot of options for that wing spot but i think simmons will hold onto it for the time being.

5. the answer is no, these guys, gallen, tupou and milo are specialists backrowers and would never make good props. tupou did play a bit of prop earlier in his career but i think he was about 10-15 kilos heavier.

6. the pace is where it should be, on the wings, and i think pom and ando are big, strong and fast enough to create the opportunities for their wingers. despite the criticism he receives in here simmo does have pace, he is just carrying more weight this year cause hes playing in the centres and i think he has done a decent job and so must ricky cause hes still there. if simmo trims down again, which he can and probably will for next year, then he will regain his speed so dont worry, but if not their is always brown, orcher, stapleton or even goodwin (if he remains here) who all have pace to jump onto that wing spot

playing in the centres will do simmons the world of good for when he switches back to wing

I do think simmo and wright sound like they might go good, BUT, I am still concerned that our centres won't be able to give them the required room and service, especially pom, hopefully someone can teach him to pass during the off season, than he would be real handy

it all comes back to squaring up the defence

on another note - simmons was back and in gear in open space when kimmorley kicked for his wing when noddy scored after it hit the defender and bounced back

i really think simmons needs to be out on the wing

I'd say Furgerson and Orcher will start playing firsts next year and will be quite successful. Unfortunately we have a comp to win this year so unless something drastic happens they won't get a run this year.

Keep Ando away from the centres please, I'd rather see them keep Simmo there whilst blooding the others on the wing.

Depth is looking good for next year, I think we will come very close to winning the damn thing in the next few years.

but if ando doesnt play centre or wing than unless theres an injury he wont be playing first grade at all, not even off the bench

Replace Norrie with Ando in your line up. Put Simmo back at centre. Bring in Furgo, Orcher, Stapelton( When he learns to tackle) on the wing for the first few weeks.

i think those guys will get a run in the early part of next season, orcher may even make his debut this year, but like i said im only guessing at what i think ricky will do when he settles on a team and he will have a hooker, 2 front rowers and a 2nd rower on the bench. my team would be different again, but im not an nrl coach or even close and i have faith in our lord ricky

I understand people saying not to put Anderson back at centre, which would surely be due to speed etc, but, its dissapointing to think that the qaulity young players that we purchased, don't get a run in the team right when they are starting to make a major impact.

Players like Millington, Anderson, Bryon Norrie and the likes!!!

Especially when we are so weak on centres, and Simmons is so crappie there.
