Homer has become a joke of a character in the newer episodes in comparison to what he use to be so I s'pose that's sort of one..

You can pretty much list any of the recurring characters that have been invented or brought to prominence this last decade or so and you wouldn't be far off the mark. Gil, Crazy Cat Lady, Moe, Duffman, Professor Frink are all up there.

Yeah homer has been the most annoying character for about the last 5 seasons. He does something stupid, gets in trouble then whingers the rest of the show about why people dont like his stupidity.

Ruth Powers wasn't funny on her shots at glory, now she only turns up in the background of a few scenes at Moes.

I don't find the Crazy Cat Lady that funny.

People suggesting Disco Stu! He's hilarious. "Back away not today Disco Lady". Also the guy who pops up from time to time who says "Yeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssssss" who "had a stroooooooooooke".

yes they should have quit while they were on top. it really was a groundbreaking show, paving the way for a lot of adult orientated animation we see today.

it seems they are just trying to see how much of self centered idiotic pig homer can be.

and it also seems bart is trying too hard these days

I have read some crazy things on this forum over the years...however saying the following suck is just crazy:

* the episode of Homer's BBBQ being awful is just wrong. It's when we discovered that the pig was a "magical animal" FFS! Apu's Garden in the Shade! Possibly the best episode ever!

* Ralph Wiggum - Super Nintendo Charmers...My cat's breath smells like cat food...I choo-choo-choose you...'nuff said.

* Troy McClure - P is for Psycho...Man Vs Nature - the Road To Victory...the guy is awesome!

Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz are classic, the show misses phil hartman.

At some point along the way they forgot about what the Homer character was about and why it was so successful. It transformed from a perfect blend of subtle, blatant and random humour to pretty much just blatant humour. You can tell with a lot of his dialogue that they, put bluntly, are trying too hard with the character. Homer has just become completely dumbed down and it seems to me that his target audience has become younger as the show went on imo. The worst part was the random humour just wasn't funny any more.

Sure, he still says some funny things, but the quality has certainly declined. Admittedly I haven't even seen a lot of the new episodes because I gave up on them a long time ago, but I do see the majority of the ads and snippets of them... and have seen a few of them where the show turned to sh*t.

I have the first 9 seasons now on DVD, and although those later seasons aren't as 'classic' as the old ones, they are still quality.. For anyone wondering, the 9th season is closing in on the 200th episode. I will probably stop buying the seasons once I have the 12th which was one of the last good ones for me.

Gil. I liked the Simpson's when Disco Stu and Sea Captain were the semi-random, go-to guys. Once this became Gil, Simpsons went down hill.

Episodes where Bart is the lead story generally aren't all that good.

Groundskeeper Willie tends to annoy me as well.
