Your First Eels game

I was also at that game. That was at the Showground wasn't it?
Anyway, if it wasn't, I remember a game at the showgound. Sold out. Absolutely jam packed and no segregation whatsoever.
I genuinely feared for my life leaving that night as I and a few mates were caught in the middle of hundreds of angry Dogs fans.

And yes, there were several years at Parra Stadium where brawls broke out both inside and outside the stadium and hence games weren't played there for a while.
It wasn't long after these years that the NRL started the "home fans" and "away fans" sections.
They were very slow to catch on.
I remember being at a mid week cup game at Leichhardt in the early 80’s when we played the dogs. I distinctly remember some very pissed Parra supporters saying some pretty awful things to the dogs fans around us about their ethnicity… my dad moved us very quickly as he thought it was going to get ugly…

I think you're right.

All I can really remember is everyone being upbeat about our "Baby Eels"...
We definitely beat the Roosters that night Eele. I went with a great mate of mine who is a mad Rooters supporter and he had to buy me beers for the rest of the night!!

Mine was early 1998 at Parra Stadium. Prior to that I watched footy relatively sparsely. Family were life long Eels supporters but didn’t go to games. The Company my dad worked for had seats in the corporate lounge so it was a fun intro to footy. I would have been 13 at the time.

Got my big league program signed by Sterlo, Fatty and Blocker who walked the sideline before the game. Then after the game an Eels staff member came around and asked if any of the kids wanted to come down to the dressing rooms to meet the players - so got to go down and meet the likes of Jason Smith, Jim Dymock, Pay, very young Hindy & Cayless etc which was just fantastic. Entire team signed the match page in the big league mag for me. I was a lifelong supporter after that and didn’t miss another home game until 2006 when I moved to the Gold Coast.
Who?

I went to a game at Seiffert around the same time. Attendance was similar so may have been the same day.
Seiffert was a shocking ground and very old school like Cumberland.
Those were the good old days.
Poor facilities and an innocence of anything better.
Some games I attended at Lidcombe were so memorable. It was the worst ground of all, yet was packed with fans also on the cycle track. Wests fans were feral.
Can't believe even these days when I go by that ground on the train that 20000 + were squeezed into that place.
Were?

Parra vs St George, Old Cumberland Oval 1978, some tough kids were near the gate and asked me who I supported. I said Parramatta and they let through. I always wondered what would of happened if I followed the Dragqueens
