When the NRL can get $120million of the TV people we can have a 18 team comp with the salary cap set at $5mill and $30 left over

Dude that is a top post! although i dont agree with some parts, i think it was generally great!

Then tell me what you disagree with and we can try and make changes to it. The point of this thread is to see peoples plans for Rugby League. If we can get one big plan that would be great. Sure mines optimistic but i believe that it can happen with some good administration. And that is what I would aim for If i had unlimited funds and ran the NRL.

Don't move any sydney teams. Sydney is the biggest and best market and RL owns it. Don't damage it by moving teams... You will only lose market share. Expand yes but do it over time and don't rush it. Bring in GC, CC and Wellington(in that order) over the next say 7 - 10 years then look at SA and WA. Each area should be given a new side that they can call their own, not some sydney team. Teams can't be just thrown into these areas.

The long term goal needs to be a 20 team comp by a certain date. I have no idea what that date is but it wouldn't be within the next 15 years imo.
imo Perth and Adelaide are more important than wellington lets get australia covered first then worry about NZ
I think for the sake of our international game NZ needs another side. NZ has so many players coming through the ranks and going over Aus, SL and union. Plus it would give the Warriors a good team to fued with.

Also we could have it like the late 90s when there would be a friday night game in NZ at like 5:30 our time then have a nine game on after it.

A 2nd NZ side would help our international game and help the game fight against Union in NZ. WA and SA are a massive task for long term, we need to make our product the best we can in as many areas as we can before we go back to SA and WA

I am 100% with you Special K If International rugby league is going to improve we need a 2nd NZ team becuase Players from Tonga,Fiji Samoa Etc could then also play for them.

By the way rugby union is going to stay on for a while so dont expect them to go that quickly!

Dragon Fanatic that is probaly 1 of the posts of the year Top stuff! :D :D

2005- Gold Coast accepted for 2007 season
2007- Gold Coast enters NRL as Central Coast is accepted for the 2009 season
2008- World Cup help in Australia is a major success with a few upsets which include Australia losing in final to NZ & Lebanon beating England in group stage [-o<
2009- the NRL now has 17 teams & stays at this for the next 3 years to allow the competition to settle down without changes every year
2012- Wellington is accepted into NRL . World Cup held in NZ, with Australia gaining the the title back
2013- The sharks(still without a title) have decided to relocate due to struggling cowds & move to Adelaide
2014- Wellington starts in the NRL as do the Adelaide Sharks. The competion now has 18 teams spread across Australia & NZ.
2015-2019- more teams are wanting to join the NRL (Perth, second Brisbane team). Because of this the NRL decides to start a second tier competiton.
2021- The NRL now has 14 teams in the top competion, they are:
*Canterbury Bulldogs (who have broken the record of consecutive titles with every one since 2004
*Sydney Roosters
*Penrith Panters
*Nth QLD Cowboys
*Melbourne Storm
*Brisbane Broncos
*Canberra Raiders
*St George/Illawarra Dragons
*Parramatta Eels
*GC Dolphins
*Auckland Warriors
*Wellington
*Adelaide Sharks
*Central Coast
>The NRL is played over 22 rounds with a top 6 system (like English Super League)
The second tier competiton looks like this:
*Manly Sea Eagles
*South Sydney Rabbitohs
*Newcastle Knights
*Perth
*Brisbane Rednecks
*North sydney Bears
*West Tigers
*Port Morsbey
>played over 21 rounds, with a top 4.
This is then used as the English Super League with Promotion/Regulation system. The bottom 2 teams in the NRL are dropped to, Nation Wide League(second tier)with the top 2 teams being promoted.

2022- the first 2 teams to be regulated are the Sydney Roosters(who were found of salary cap breaches for the past 20 years) & Brisbane Broncos. The Brisbane Rednecks are promoted & become the number 1 club of all sports in Brisbane. The Rabbitohs also move up to the NRL & are becoming a force again.

2023-Onwards- The game continues like this & becomes the number 1 sport over all Australia with terrific crowds in both competitons.

2024- LEBANON becomes dominant force in world rugby league

Wests Tigers to Perth   Canterbury to Wellington   Sharks to Adelaide  , I'm glad you don't run the game. Moving sides like these to those places are sure fire ways for the club to put up the for sale signs. Plus lose thousands upon thousands of supporters to the game.

You won't lose any supporters to the game. Just because their club is no longer near them doesn't mean they won't watch the game. Most people watch football matches that don't involve their team.

Look at the AFL. Relocation worked great. Fiztroy up to Brisbane and the Swans were a relocated team. 2 other Melbourne sides are also considering relocating.

Teams are far more likely to be successful in Perth/Adelaide if they aren't new teams and are relocated teams. Look at the AFL - The Bears were a joke when it came to supporters and sponsors that went broke 3 times, finally going bust. Fiztroy relocate up here, and the Lions are modertaly successful when it comes to supporters & sponsors.

Fitzroy merged with Brisbane because they were broke and looking for a life line.

I doubt a relocated team will do anything for the imagination of the public in that town.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, play the national team in Perth, Adelaide and for the heck of it Hobart, and see how they embrace the game, because if they can't embrace the national team how on earth are they going to embrace a club side.

My dream national comp is quite simple...just look at my pic sig!

*For starters, dissolve all the joint ventures!
*Re-admit the Newtown Jets!
* bring back Adelaide and Perth...not necesarrily under their ARL/Super League monkiers but for arguments sake lets call em the Rams and Reds.
*A greater presence in Queensland- readmit the Crushers and put The Gold Coast and a team from Rockhampton in!
* Wellington and Christchurch to be admitted
* Northern Territoy
* Central Coast
* Port Moresby...no natinal comp would be complete without the presence of a team from the ONLY country that calls rugby leage its national sport
*Of course, lets satisfy Singo and put the Central Coast in...and do thew rght thing...give a great foundation club the chance that was so unfairly denied to them at the end of 99!

So...my plan for a National comp would be the following:

Adelaide Rams- Hindmarsh Stadium
Balmain Tigers- Leichardt Oval
Brisbane Broncos- Suncorp Stadium
Canberra Raiders- Bruce Stadium
Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs- Sydney Showgrounds
Central Coast Bears- Express Advocate Stadium
Central Queensland Comets- any ground in Rockhampton worth turning into a 25K capacity stadium!
Christchurch Bulls- an extension of the Canterbry bulls Bartercard Cup team playing out of Jade Stadium.
Cronlla-Sutherland Sharks- Toyota Park
Darwin Brahmas- Again, show me a field in darwin that can handle a top flight NRL side.
Gold Coast Dolphins- Cararra Stadium
illawarra Steelers- WIN Stadium
Manly-Warringah Sea-Eagles- Brookvale Oval
Melbourne Storm- a fully redeveloped Olympic Park
New Zealand Warriors- Ericsson Stadium
Newcastle Knights- EnergyAustralia Stadium
Newtown jets- Henson Park (redeveloped)
north Queensland Cowboys- Dairy Farmers Stadium
Parramatta Eels- Parramatta Stadium
Penrith Panthers- Penrith Stadim
Port Moresby Vipers- Lloyd Robson Oval
St George Dragons- Oki Jubilee Stadium
South Queensland Crushers- Suncorp Stadium (is there really any point having them use ANZ now that Suncorp is a world class venue)
South Sydney Rabbitohs- Redfern Oval to be redeveloped under the vision of Mr G. Piggins
Southern Orcas- Westpac Trust Stadium
Sydney Roosters- Aussie Stadium
Western Reds- Members Equity Stadium
Wests magpies- Campbelltown Sports Ground

how is it possible to have 28 team National comp? Well, it starts with the assassination of Denis Fitzgerald. The NRL conspired against him and paid handsomly for Storm supporter to kill Fitzy with an ice-pick (notice the irony in that?) after Fitzgerald's constant bleeting about rule changes, doing away with rep footy and an extended competition. The killer's reward was an out of town, airtight alibi, a fully stocked super box at every origin, test match and grand final for a lifetime! Now that Fitzy is outta the way the NRL commitee was free to do what they wanted without that arsehole being a blight on the greatest game of all. First of all the joint ventres are dissolved...

End of 2005: comp to 17 teams
2007: Gold Coast, Central Coast and Wellington admitted to the National Rugby League. 20 teams
2006: Andrew demitriou makes a bet with David Gallop and squanders the AFL's bank. The once dominant code is now broke coz the NRL has its money!
2009: Newtown jets readmitted to the competition for the first time since 1981. South Queensland and the Western Reds let back into the competition.
2010: John O'Neill becomes a drunken bum living in doorways on Oxford Street after failing as CEO of Australia's mickey mouse soccer competition. Demitriou folllows soon after.
2011: The NRL cover the rest of the country by finally re-admiting the Adelaide Rams and establising a team in Darwin and Rockhampton
2014: In the NRL's boldest move ever, a team is established in Port Moresby. Despite the low standard of living in PNG, the town goes nuts and increases the NRL's overall attendance figures! All memberships sell out and it is not ncommon for fatalities to occur at every home game when people fall out of the trees surronding Lloyd Robson Oval. The New Zealand Warriors win the premiership
2015: unable to make inroads, rugby union in NZ dies in the arse after the success of the Warriors
2017: The NRL seizes the opportunity and establishes a team in the South island city of Christchurch. Now that there is one less major Union Test pllaying nation in the world, the majority of Wallaby players realise there is no competition any more and attempt to convert to league. Most, if not all are knocked back.

If it were to be a truly national comp and the player stocks magically got this high then i would have have:
Current teams
1. Melbourne Storm - Olympic Park (upgraded)
2. Cronulla Sharks - Shark Park (name change)
3. Townsville Cowboys (change actual name) - Dairy Farmers Stadium
4. Newcastle Knights - EnergyAustralia Stadium
5. Penrith Panthers - Penrith Stadium
6. Auckland Warriors (name change) - Ericsson Stadium
7. Canberra Raiders - Canberra Stadium
8. Canterbury Bulldogs - Belmore
9. St George Dragons (Illawarra to be independent) - Oki Jubilee STadium
10. Wests Magpies (Balmain to be imdependent) - Campbelltown Stadium
11. Parramatta Eels - Parramatta Stadium
12. Manly Sea Eagles - Brookvale Oval
13. South Sydney Rabbitohs - Redfern Oval
14. Sydney City Roosters (name change) - Aussie Stadium
15. Brisbane Broncos - Suncorp Stadium
Teams to be added in near future
16. Gold Coast Dolphins - Carrara Stadium
17. Central Coast Bears - Express Advocate Stadium
18. Southern Orcas - Westpac Trust Stadium
Teams to be added in not near but not distant future
19. Perth Reds - Members Equality Stadium
20. Adelaide Rams - Adelaide Oval
21. North Sydney Bears - North Sydney Oval
Teams to be added in distant future
21. Hobart Hurricanes - Where ever in Hobart
22. Darwin Dingoes - Where ever in Darwin
23. Redcliffe Dolphins - Dolphin Oval (upgraded)
24. North Brisbane Devils - Bishop Park (upgraded)
25. South Brisbane Flare - Where ever in South Brisbane
26. Central Qld Comets - Browne Park
27. Cairns Cyclones - Barlow Oval (upgraded)
28. Balmain Tigers - Leichardt Oval
29. Illawarra Steelers - WIN Stadium
30. Broome Bushrangers - Any where in Broome
31. Alice Springs Natives - Any where in Alice Springs
32. Port Adelaide Strikers - Adelaide Oval

So yeah that will never happen though, too many teams, too many rounds, players and everyone will have a whinge about season being too long but they could have a mid-season break, but yeah basically will never happen.

I would like to see the most famous club in QRL history the Valleys Diehards ressurected as the Brisbane Diehards to represent Brisbane and traditional RL fans. :D

They can ground share with the Broncos at Lang Park and give us a game of NRL in the city every week. And we can look forward to visits from the Dolphins and Cowboys. As well as two sell out local derbies. :D

My suggestion would be an EPL division type league, where the bottom 2 from Division 1 goes down into Division 2 and the top 2 of Division 2 go into Division 1, this gives something to play for.

Division 1
1. Brisbane Broncos
2. Canberra Raiders
3. Canterbury Bulldogs
4. Cronulla Sharks
5. Eastern Suburbs Roosters
6. Manly Sea Eagles
7. Melbourne Storm
8. New Zealand Warriors
9. Newcastle Knights
10. North Queensland Cowboys
11. Parramatta Eels
12. Penrith Panthers
13. Wests Tigers
14. St George Illawarra Dragons

Division 2
1. Burleigh
2. Cabramatta
3. Easts (QLD)
4. Gold Coast
5. Norths (QLD)
6. Perth
7. Redcliffe
8. South Sydney Rabbitohs
9. Sydney Bulls
10. The Entrance
11. Toowoomba
12. Wentworthville
13. Windsor
14. Wynnum

Division 3
1. Brothers Valleys
2. Central
3. Erina
4. Guildford
5. Ipswich
6. Newtown
7. Townsville
8. Ourimbah
9. Ryde-Eastwood
10. Souths Jnr's
11. Souths Logan
12. St Marys-Penrith
13. Tweed Heads
14. Woy Woy

- Each team plays each other twice in each division (26 games)
- Top 5 format in each division for finals (2 v 3, 4 v 5 etc)
- Grand finalist’s go into the next division

Australia's top 10 cities must have teams. The AFL currently only in 5 of them:

- Sydney
- Melbourne
- Brisbane
- Perth
- Adelaide
- Newcastle
- Canberra
- Wollongong
- Gold Coast
- Gosford

To achieve this:

These teams stay:
1. Brisbane
2. Melbourne
3. Canberra
4. Newcastle
5. Warriors
6. Cowboys
7. Dragons (on proviso of becoming Illawarra Dragons in Wollongong)

Sydney Clubs are offered big cash incentives to move to any of the following locations:
- Central Coast
- Gold Coast
- 2nd NZ (Christchurch may be a possibility, as a way of getting into Union and would feed off all NZ juniors except Auckland).
- Adelaide
- Perth

That would leave 4 teams in Sydney. Who ever is left in Sydney would have to partner up to form 2 new clubs representing Sydney (Aussie Stad) and West Sydney (Telstra), otherwise no-one would want to move at all.

This would result in a 14 team national league with teams in all major cities and 2 NZ teams (on both North and South Islands).

1. Brisbane Broncos
2. Nth Qld Cowboys
3. Gold Coast*
4. Newcastle Knights
5. Central Coast*
6. Sydney**
7. West Sydney**
8. Illawarra Dragons
9. Canberra Raiders
10. Melbourne Storm
11. 2nd NZ*
12. Warriors (renamed Auckland)
13. Adelaide*
14. Perth*

*= areas open for teams to relocate to; **= new clubs formed by remaining Sydney Clubs.
