I have a whole lotta love for Matt Hilder, but we need more go forward in our pack and Mark T gives us that. Plus Hilder offers a lot more off the bench in terms of utility value, being able to cover hooker, backrow and even in very dire straits five-eighth.

With Hilders fitness and work ethic he can comfortably switch position IMO, really loosing a lot in defence moving him IMO.

edit - don't mind me, I'm thinking of the wrong year. Rogers was suspended for the start of 2010 I think.

Taufua is a very good defender in his own right. But I do understand your sentiment. I considered Costigan to 12, Taufua to 8, Hilder to 13 and Pato back to the bench, but that leaves us with a back row that, IMO, lacks a real X-factor. For what we lose in defence we gain in go forward, which we desperately need.

Mark T isn't an 80 minute lock either, after the opening stoush Hilder can come on and Taufua joins the prop rotation.

Hilder in 2010 demonstrated that he has improved his running game. Saying Taufua offers good go forward I find hard to agree with, as imo he's best attributes at this stage don't involve his go forward.

Also Hilder has proven to be close to the fittest player in the club. Why can't he move to hooker or 5/8 from the run on side and then have his lock position replaced by a bench player?

I think it's important Uate stays on the right wing. One of his best abilities is beating his man with a left foot step, getting on the outside of him and beating him with pace down the sideline. He can't do this on the left, but most of all, he just doesn't seem the same player there.

Hilder & Costigan are the ones giving me the most trouble, there's 2-3 different roles I would love to see them play. There's so many possibilities with our forward pack, nearly every lineup I've seen on this thread I would be happy with. The only 2 things that I want to see no matter what is Henry starting and either Costigan or Hilder play lock, the makeup of the rest of the team you can't really go wrong with.

Hey Bicey, are you running with one bench prop there?

Or do you see House as a prop?

Looks like you have three back rowers on the bench. Even if you count House as front row you still have two in KOD and Patto.

It could work if you tweaked your interchange and pushed Costigan into front row if he had the minutes in him.

Not having a go mate just wondering how you would work it.

My way of thinking indeed

Thinking of our prop shortage, I wouldn't mind seeing Ciraldo train to put on 5 or 10 kg and give prop a try.
Before he injured his leg he was bending the line a bit, and he would be a huge unit if he filled out a bit.
He won't have really got over that injury last year, so i expect to see a lot more from him this year, and he's not going to get too many starts as a running second row because i think he has lost any speed he might have had once.

So crazy, it might just work.

Seriously though, there's no need. I think we've got enough props, just not good enough props- if that makes sense. Next year it's guys like Ciraldo who will getting released to sign guys like Snowden and to be honest, I can't wait.

I like him, he seems like a really nice guy but I can't see him getting any game time any time soon, there's just too many ahead of him that are better and I can't see what he could have to offer the team that 99% of our other forwards can't. If moving to the front row is his best chance of playing first grade again then good luck to him, I hope he has a good year.

If Ciraldo hadn't broken his leg when he did I think he would be a regular firstgrader by now. He was improving steadily and already a frequent firstgrader.
He wasn't back to his best last year, but still got games in the top grade, and i think an off season where he has had a chance to rest his leg for a while and then do some gym work without having to do the game/recovery cycle will see his body back to top shape. He obviously isn't in the top 17 on paper right now, but he is at least some chance to force his way in during the trials. He isn't far off the pace.

I agree re Ciraldo roop.

Its a two year comeback from a horrid injury like that.
