For a team that has had star-studded backlines for two decades, what has happened to the mighty Broncos? Would have to be one of the weakest backlines in the league. I guess things go in cycles but the Broncos have been so good for so long, it just looks strange looking at a team like that.

Yeah nice way to reward our best front rower from this year, leave him on the bench and move a second rower there. He'll be out the door when his next contract is due. McGuire should be one of our starting props and will be, unless Griffin is actually an idiot like henjack, which I highly doubt.

The coach got caught up in size over skills.
The likes of Reed, Gillett, Norman, Copley, Whitchurch are just some examples.

The Broncos are making them bigger. Copley was given a target of putting 8kgs in the previous off season.

He once was lightning quick. The Broncos are fixated on weight development and making their players bigger.

Des Hasler has the opposite view. He has his teams doing less leg weights than the other clubs. He believes and is quoted as saying "you cant run with fat legs". imo Hasler has got it right.

I think Copley should be on the same side as maranta
And we should be aiming for Whitchurch to fill in at fullback when hodges goes down
If Hoffman wants it make him earn it
Prince at 5/8 but with freedom to order wallace

To be fair, the size argument changes every year. I remember before the 2011 season all our forwards were over 100kg after a big pre season and they dominated all year.

may disagree with des... although i'm not sure massive bulk is the right idea for league either... horses for courses i guess... no point doing slow massive weights (pure strength) but large explosive legs (power) are what would work better for an outside back.. let the props do the massive leg presses..

The bits in bold...no no no no no no.

Gillett isn't a starter yet, when he can be consistent like Parker, Glenn ect then he can start. Why leave McGuire on the bench? That is just plain stupid, he was our best prop this year and should and will get a starting spot next year. Hoffman is not a winger at all, I can just see him getting owned every week, especially under the high ball. it's either fullback or reserves, it's that simple. Personally after his comments this year I would make him start the year in reserves and earn his spot back. Parker to front row? Why we have McGuire.

After some thought this would be my starting line up

1 - Hodges ( he wants to play there, fine, give him a chance, especially if it brings out the best in him and would mean Hoffman would have to play out of his skin to get back in the side, a win win )
2 - Maranta
3 - Reed
4 - Copely
5 - Yow Yeh
6 - Wallace
7 - Prince
8 - McGuire
9 - McCullough
10 - Hannant
11 - Thaiday
12 - Glenn
13 - Parker

14 - Hunt
15 - Hala
16 - J Wallace
17 - Gillett ( would be on notice, pull your finger out or join Norman and Hoffman in reserves )

Good side Kiwi, Copely wing, Norman centre until Yow Yeh comes well perhaps?

Whitchurch, Kahu or someone from a feeder club on the wing till Yow Yeh comes back. I hate the move everyone around when someone gets hurt. Just bring a replacement for that position.

Only reason hodges wants to play fullback - is he has lost his speed/agility to play centre.

Similar to Ropati - who after too many injuries only looks good whilst playing from the back

haha.. 20 years later... damn we had some quality in the 90s... how many current players would force their way into that lineup?

Pretty much agree although I would have...

Andrew McCullough > Plath
Alex Glenn > Tony Currie

Heck at the risk of ruffling a few feathers I believe Glenn is a better package than Gillmeister.

Gillett would also be pushing. He's kind of like a modern day Cann, Matty.

I'm not sure why people are having a go at posters naming McGuire on the bench. His best work has come from off the bench. He was outstanding at the backend of 2011 coming off the bench and then playing the final 60 minutes.
