At the beginning of the season I said that I thought Lomax was our best centre prospect, our best fullback prospect and our best winger prospect. I called for him to be selected at centre for the opening game of the season. Dufty was looking the good several weeks ago, but since then his future now looks clouded. He still may become the superstar that we would like him to or he may fade in obscurity. If Dufty doesn't improve his flaws, then we probably already have our future fullback here, in Lomax. Lomax has massive wraps on him from myself and many other good judges. If he was playing fullback, then he would not be confined to one side of the field. He would be able to get more involved and inject himself when he pleases. If he is as good as we think he is, then we would want him getting his hands on the ball as much as possible and fullback should be his future position. He would probably prefer to play fullback, as good fullbacks can demand a lot more than good centres. He looks to have a very good all round game and is good under the high ball.

Question, why do you continually start posts with 'early in the year I was calling for this' like your opinion means something or is correct?

I've been saying for a long time now that Lomax is our long term fullback and I hope he gets to show what he can do in that position against Newcastle this week.

Possm mate.
Lomax has been ear-markex as our future centre nof fullback.
Dufty will remain there for the ptesent and I'm hoping Herbert had a change of heart and stays. If so he would be more suited to the fullback role.
Nene will probably stay with us and is looking for an extension to his current contract.
Young Saab looks an exciting prospect to join our wing position in a couple of years.
Dufty's had a couple if shockers recently but with the right set up he could be an absolute weapon from the back. Of course that would involve a whole new coaching set up. Fingers crossed hey!
Looking forward i would see:

Fb - Dufty/Herbert
W - Nene and Saab
C - Lomax and ? (Lets say Mann)
H - Widdop and Hunt

Thats gives us height and speed and agility.

Lomax is a true out and out centre and should be played there ! Many judges classify this kid as our next Gasnier so leave him there .... He's a centre, a very possible star centre Play him as a centre !!!

If Dufty doesn't improve and can't cut the grade then bye bye replace him with an out and out fullback !! If we don't have one in waiting or in the wings then go to the market !! Simple !!

Didn't i hear once upon a time that Field was our next fullback ???? (he's a half mind you but anyway) I'm sure that came from our impressive management team ......

Enought with the positional changes play them where they should be played and if we need specialists then cause we don't have them then go to the market like every other team does.

I do wonder if Dufty could cope with defending at centre. Lord knows his positional play defending at fullback has been shown up several times this year.

Yeah - we can only hope Herbert delays his decision until the new coach is appointed.
He's from NZ, so I guess he maybe wants to return home anyway.
Subtract Nene & add Field & you've got the best attacking backline in our 30

I always like Field and his last few games in ISP have been very good, not a lot of running but his passing game has been very good.
He does seem to me to be light on in his bulk. What is his weight and height compared to Dufty

I also hate seeing a player standing motionless, being held around the legs and up high and a third player charges in at their spine/rib cage etc...but with the importance of off loading I'd say trying adjust the rules to police this would be very difficult. Even more so with some of the power house forwards that are capable of breaking free from multiple defenders.

Yes Belta, I've been thinking this also.
If there was a rule against "prolonging" a tackle it would solve a lot of problems.
Defence will be required to complete the tackle as soon as they are able and not hold up a player to give the defence time to retreat or for another defender to demolish the ball carrier.

I also hate seeing players held up and forced back or sideways 10m. Its not a good look.
Once the initial impact is complete no further yardage should be lost in the tackle.
It would encourage more expansive football with less fear of being bundled out or in goal.

Referees should also not wait so long to call "held". Once progress is halted, give them another 2 seconds to offload and struggle for yardage then call it.

Centre. I think he will play at 6 later in his career.

I'd say Dufty should play off the bench, Field at 6, Mann in the centres and Lomax at fullback with Herbert on the right wing.

I wish him the best of luck. He’s up against it on & off the field(no doubt the keyboard warriors will be calling for his head if he doesn’t save our season).
I reckon quite the opposite. Most on here are so in love with the idea of Lomax being the best player to ever pull on the red v that they will make any excuse for him if he plays rubbish.
He will be invincible for a few weeks.

We live in hope Lomax will be a super star

After the last few weeks the majority of us are in desperate need of several very stiff drinks or a few Valium tablets.

I am still trying to make up my mind whether the team is mentally exhausted or simply doesn’t take their contractual responsibilities to the club seriously.

We need hungry ambitious players with a tough edge who want to win everything.

Not a group of marshmallows
