I’m backing Mary to start Aiken ahead of Lomax. Looking at the game through a Mary lens I’d be taking the more cautious approach and picking the experienced campaigner.

Now if I were coach I’d be picking Lomax. He’s played well and has a bit of xfactor and can kick goals. Going up against Inglis in a semi in front of 70k will be a huge experience for him. Roll the dic, no one expects us to win again.

Aitken's demonstrated ability to dominate Greg Inglis versus Lomax being the only decent goal-kicker available to us. I'm glad I didn't have to make the decision.

Aitken has played South's 6 times …
2 wins - the game early this year and the game in 2016 in the absolute worst conditions.

Inglis has scored more tries in these games than Aitken. Even in the game in question Round 5 this year where Aitken stood up Inglis really well Inglis also scored a try whre Aitken was once again caught out of position.

People are basically pinning Aitkens awesome form on standing inglis up once . It was a great move but seriously? He has never contained inglis to the extent that everyone is talking about.

I don't know, the more I think about it the more I come to the conclusion that Aitken should go. As he is contracted long term, I'd be bulking him up in the offseason and seeing how he goes coming off the bench in ISP. There's really no place for sentiment in our Club. To play NRL you have to perform. Aitken has had the same problems in defence for the past two seasons and it seems no one is doing anything about it.
He will be perfect in the Mann role next year and could really add to the team. Furthermore, he could really help stop Mary from being so ridiculously hopeless at managing the bench by actually being a Beau Scott type that can play second row and the centres. Mann tried admirably, but he needs to be on the wing next year IMO.

Lomax has to play no doubting that.

Aitkens best chance of playing is from the bench.

I think the answer lies in the selections of the 17 and the 4 reserves.

As the bench now stands:
Lats and Lawrie prop rotation
Leilua edge forward rotation
Sele as the back up for JDB.

A 4 forward bench against souths is not a crazy idea.

The reserves consist of:
A winger = Nighty
A centre = Aitken
A 5/8 and sometome fullback = Field
A forward who best plays edge.

So the question is, can Aitken play lock?

I don't see the 17 being changed unless JDB does not start. This is going to be played in the towards. If we get in Sam’s face he does seem to put his game off. We need to watch their hooker also.
Going to be a mighty game and I am quietly confident we can win this

Given the dragon lock is used as a link player then absolutely not

Lomax was named in the centres today for the Souths game with Aitken in the 21-man squad as a reserve.

No decision to make, very easy Lomax all the way, Aitken is way out of form anyway..

Like Fittler it’s form on the board, that’s Lomax plus he can kick goals. He tackles like Widdop around the legs very effective against big blokes like Inglis however the off loads can be a worry.

My take on why Zac > Aitken for Saturday

Defence-
Better reads, bigger frame to handle GI, can nullifies the cross- field chips with his height and fb experience

Attack-
More evasive (with footwork), can offload, set up his winger, is a potential areial target

General value to team-
Good goal kicker, takes line drop outs, more versatile to cover any backline injuries, doesn't provide GI ammunition to have a blinder after Aitken embarrassed him earlier in the year.

For some other opposition, it would be a good psychological tactic to play to pick Aitken, but not against Inglis.
