I think plenty of sides above you last year won’t be as competitive this season.

Work mate and I festered through the league this afternoon to nominate the clubs we thought are on the slide:

I don’t understand why you people don’t listen. Players can be signed to the club and not be a train and trial. They are strictly signed to the reserve grade squad!!!

I think if you sub out Bird, Lomax into centres and Tui, Tamale or Finau on a wing and it looks a lot quicker - partic if they are actually fit this year

I don’t understand why you people don’t listen. Players can be signed to the club and not be a train and trial. They are strictly signed to the reserve grade squad!!!

I guess I've never really pondered the difference.. as either way I see them in the Cup side until "something" changes, I guess it plays out differently though, just looking at the rules:

"Train and Trial: How it works. Train and trial players earn $1200 per week. They will pocket $3000 per first grade game they play, however they're ineligible to be picked until round 11 — unless they win NRL approval."

So to be promoted into 1st grade:
o Train & Trial: Can play any time from Rd11 - But would need to be paid 3k cash per game out of the salary cap
o Signed to Reserve Grade: Would have to be promoted into one of the 30+6 official spots

So Train & Trial is waaayyy more flexible, a signed reserve grader would have to really impress, and then wait for a spot to be opened to get any promotion (if indeed they want a promotion).

Feels like Train & Trial is definitely abusable too, its an extra pool of depth players ready to go for minimum nrl wages.

Zac has always been lacking:
Quality ball
Early ball
Fast ball
Best side ball
proper coaching to use the ball

Flanno has also now introduced extras to Zac:
Moving before receiving the ball
Intense sprint training to run onto the ball

I hope Zac has a strong season playing football for the red v.

Yeah, I was also thinking that he hadn’t been given the best opportunities to show his talents and I want Flanno to nurture him.

Both Sloan and Lomax will be in the 13 - take that as a given

why would you waste time on them if you only see them as a reserve grade player, T&T is usually reserved for people with potential or on the radar, you earn your stripes through reserve grade

Hopefully the warmer weather will slow down the first clutch of games.

I think Flanno needs to be strategic with selections for the entire year.

If a game has well and truly gotten away from you, I don’t want see your better players injured late for no reason etc.

Defensive structures really important and the grind needs smart interchanges.

Youve got some good attacking players, they will need some ball from good field position.

Low error count is critical.

Hunt will need his long kicking game in order.

Eveyone will need to pull their weight. No loafers, no favourites.

Nowhere to hide in our game. Any sign of weakness, you get targeted and pulverised.

There’s no knight in shining armour for you guys. It’s up to everyone to get better individually and as a team.

Flanno will drive that into everyone.

Everybody fights, no one surrenders.
It’s going to be a pretty exciting season.

Win, lose or draw, it will be good to see some of your DNA return. Been awhile.

The likes of Zac Lomax, once rated an Origin player, is under contract at St George-Illawarra but unhappy about being shunted to the wing.
