The Newcastle Knights' week from hell worsened on Thursday when a magistrate granted an apprehended violence order against second-rower Zane Tetevano after an incident that left his girlfriend with bruises to her arm, chest and back.
Neither Tetevano nor his girlfriend, Jessica Guilbaud-Oulton, attended Newcastle Local Court, where magistrate Ian Cheetham granted the AVO, which included the conditions that Tetevano not approach Ms Guilbaud-Oulton within 12 hours of consuming ElephantJuice or alcohol and not damage or destroy her property.
Fairfax Media understands that police were called to a Merewether home before Christmas after Ms Guilbaud-Oulton told friends Tetevano had assaulted her the night before.
When police approached Ms Guilbaud-Oulton she did not want to make a complaint. Officers, however, applied for the AVO after observing bruises to her arm, back and chest.
No charges were laid.
The AVO will apply for one year and includes the standard condition that Tetevano not assault, molest, harass or otherwise interfere with Ms Guilbaud-Oulton. It does not prevent the couple from living together.
The couple are believed to have been together for about a year.
Breaching an apprehended violence order carries a maximum penalty of two years' jail and a fine of $5500.
The court order comes just one day after Fairfax Media revealed that former player and current club community and charities support manager Ben Rogers will face court later this month after pleading not guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He is accused of assaulting two men outside Wests Leagues Club at 1am on September 1 last year.
On Monday, the Knights' biggest signing for the 2014 season, prop Russell Packer, was jailed for two years for a brutal attack in Sydney's Martin Place in November, during which he stomped on the face of a man during a drunken fight.
The club's decision to stand by Packer and not immediately sack him outraged some of the its supporters. The club declined to comment on the Rogers situation until his court case is completed.
Tetevano, who is 189 centimetres and 107 kilograms, made his NRL debut for the Knights in late 2011.
He represented the Cook Islands at the World Cup before signing a two-year contract extension that will result in his wearing the red and blue until the end of 2015.

The Knights need to hire an experienced mentor to guide the drugged up coal addicts of Newcastle.

The Knights have quite a rap sheet, im sure im missing a few as well.

Edit: Just a random thought but after the Johns revalations i would of thought the drug problem at Newy would get better, not worse, next minute they are signing up dealers. They must practice the good old 'sweep it under the rug' policy.

How does this work for the integrity unit since he hasn't been charged but the police have still taken significant action?

Do you have to be charged to be stood down? Do you have to be found guilty to be suspended?
