Top past Charlie ... have been saying that for years.

The facts are that if you take a look at the books you will prob find that we signed Tilse for about twice as much as we needed to ... no other club would be looking at him.

As much as I love the bloke you have to admit it would have been a massive risk to throw a lot of money at him after the farce that was Craig Frawley.

Exactly.

There's no doubt that Zillman has shown some great talent and potential during his time here, but the club cannot afford to get into another bidding war for another injury prone player.

If Zilly didn't want to stay for the money we offered him, then ciao. I would much rather concentrate on securing more of these guys we have coming off contract than risking $300K plus on a bloke who will have only played 1 game in 18 months.

souths can bite me...ill take 2 out of 4 wins soon to be 3 out of 5 than 0 out of 4 soon to be 0 out of 5....souths are a myth with zero juniors.

Bingo. Couldn't agree with you more Charlie.

What we needed - desperately - to do, was to pick up Johnny Lang us our coach, and then throw caution to the wind and throw 500k at Matt Cooper or someone else of that calibre who's off contract this year.

We go into next year. Suddenly we have a high profile coach and a genuine star player. Add to that young talent like Carney, Goodwin, Monaghan and Learoyd-Lahrs.

THIS is how you build a great team. THIS is how you attract star players.

More importantly...

THIS IS HOW YOU WIN PREMIERSHIPS

God. You just don't get it do you? He's using it as an example of how a club noone wants to play for can become the bee's knee's overnight.

Souths have players like Wing, Asotasi, Kidwell and Vagana on their books, and the best sponsorship deal in the league.

As if we wouldn't want to find ourselves in a similar position.

we're always hearing about how former raiders greats are willing to come and help the club out, there're just a phone call away.

management seem unwilling to admit they've made mistakes

I think they do ... the problem is how does Don Furner Snr say to Don Furner Jnr "you're sacked".

And how will Don Furner Jnr say to Dave Furner "f**k you suck as a coach ... I think we need to inact that termination clause".

They ran 7th last year. We ran 15th.

Sounds like a result to me...

Souths found themselves on CH9 three of the first four rounds (from memory) ... it was the expectation that was not afforded to the Raiders ... compare that with season 2006.

It had nothing to do with money.

He's from QLD and he wanted to go home.

Personally, I'm quite p#ssed off at him. He was well regarded by the club and would have been a crowd favourite for years at Canberra. But, the climate and facilities on the GC are much better than the ACT and his family is only an hour away....

Geez, I've spent a few minutes looking over some old (as in three or four years) posts from this forum.

Every post to do with Zillman usually begins 'geez, Zillman scored 7 length of the field tries today in PL, this kid is going to be a superstar'.

I'm getting more and more annoyed about this.

However usually the next line says 'But he was outplayed by Jermaine Ale' so I guess we could be wrong about Zillman too...But I think not.

Why do I see him carving us up next season?

Who cares that he is leaving I don't!!!! When he returns he will be coming back from two season ending knee injuries. His major positive was his speed, will he have that anymore? Give me a healthy Bronx Goodwin anyday, he should be our priority signing at the moment. Zillman you were a nice dream but that was about it!!!!!!

A quick glance at the premiership winners over the last 100 years indicates to me very few teams won the comp based on purchasing big names.

The vast majority of teams - even in recent history - won it on the back of juniors, a good run with injuries and pride.

Buying a premiership is a myth.

...bringing back quality PEOPLE like Mick Monas and adding a few key youngsters like Flanagan and Shillington however...

Amen ... rates as the worst decision made in the past 5 years

when he was here...everyone kept saying how bad he was... and that Carney should be given the chance.

Have to agree, he left manly a much better player than he left us. I never rated him when he left us, ill gladly eat humble pie now after what I seen him do last season.

I always rated Mick Monaghan over the likes of Brad Drew, who was a disaster for us, second ony to Tyran Smith.

Mick played some exceptional games for us but his fate was sealed when Luke O'Donnell broke his jaw at Leachhardt back in 2003.
