I am getting concerned about the Maloney TPA situation. From what I have gleaned from the media, the hold up is that the club wants a TPA that involved payments to Moylan to be moved to Maloney. Presumably, if the TPA provider (whomever it is) is happy to do that, then I don't see how it infringes the arms length issue. Clearly, however, the NRL is disagreeing. I imagine Gus is giving it his all to get it done, but the fact it isn't sorted out now makes me concerned. The only other solution would be to shed players to make up for the TPA shortfall (or potentially have Maloney accept less pay this year and the TPA plus more next year). Has anyone seen any reports on what the TPA is worth?

It appears the Keno 3rd Party deal worth around 200K that was previously with Moylan looks likely to be knocked back by the NRL.

It is quite clear that the club has organised it and not Maloney. All 16 clubs probably do this but Penrith has made it pretty obvious by trying to transfer the deal from one player to the next.

Maloney even said he is waiting for the club to finalise the 3rd Party deal. Which makes it even more obvious!!!

If you read the bottom of this article it says the paperwork regarding Maloney's 3rd Party deal was submitted on Nov 3. The fact it hasn't been approved yet is very concerning.

Maloney will either have to source another 3rd Party deal or Penrith will have to shed a player on around $300K. This is due to having to replace this player in the top 30 with another player on minimum wage ($100K).

Penrith will definitely move a player on and get Maloney because it will be a PR disaster if Maloney doesn't come now. Gus will look like an idiot.

Hasnt Maloney said waiting on the tpa to be organised with club. He slipped up by saying with club which put his TPA in jeopardy with the NRL. Afterall Parra was kicked out of comp or docked most points for organising TPAS. 600ks worth.

Since Moylan signed with the Sharks we have been busy signing some depth players
and resigned Edwards and May.
No news on Maloney coming to us. In this article on Pearce leaving the Roosters there is mention of him staying at the Sharks.
So who will be our 5/8 next year. May is out injured, Luia is still 6-12 months away from 1st grade. Do we go with Cartwright again or perhaps Peachey?

Luai just was given a bath by Cronk and Morgan. That is good enough to use that to build on, Though I can't see Maloney not coming we would just release a few excess forwards

To the people on here who know what Moylan did but wont tell, why cant u tell ? I dont know but I would like to know. It would probably make the whole situation a little easier to understand. Hes officially gone now and unless u have an official capacity at the club and are sworn to secrecy surely u can tell me. Please ?

It doesn't really matter. All that matters is the players wanted him out at the end

James Maloney can be the missing piece of the Penrith Panthers puzzle once his looming switch from Cronulla to the foot of the mountains is confirmed, according to Kangaroos teammate Reagan Campbell-Gillard.

Penrith are yet to announce Maloney will be at Penrith for the next three years with the signing off of a third-party deal believed to be holding up the process, but the club is already preparing for his arrival and the halves partnership he's set to strike-up with young star Nathan Cleary.
The 31-year-old NRL veteran joins Penrith as part of a swap deal for Matt Moylan.

Campbell-Gillard has been getting to know his future teammate throughout the World Cup, and the pair played alongside each other for the first time when Australia beat Lebanon this month.
Ahead of Friday's semi-final against Fiji in Brisbane, Campbell-Gillard said Maloney was the ideal man to play alongside Cleary.

"I've always said this, that we've always needed an experienced half to partner Nathan in the halves there and take the pressure off him," Campbell-Gillard said.


"Jimmy will bring that, we'll have two dominant halves which is going to be really good and it's going to work.
"I know he'll bring experience, he's won two grand finals and I think been part of three or four.
"He's going to be a massive asset for the club and the guidance and building Nathan into a superstar. He's already a superstar and he's just going to be getting better."

Cleary is still expected to be the dominant half at Penrith next year, despite being 11 years Maloney's junior.
In just two seasons in the top grade, he has has emerged as one of the most talented prospects in the NRL and is already being earmarked as a future NSW half.

But for all the talent emerging at the Panthers, the club has arguably underachieved in the past two years, exiting in week two of the finals in both seasons.

"The last couple of years we've fallen short of that little prize there," Campbell-Gillard said.

"I'm not saying that it's a half thing or things like that but we've been building really good over the last few years so hopefully this is the missing link and Jimmy can come and give us guidance to obviously push further into finals footy and obviously reach the goal of winning a grand final.

Again a player seems happy with the trade. That is the main thing really who cares what the fans think. Need to players happy to play well

But all along everyone knew it was pretty much the end of Pearce. Cronk has been ruining his rep career for years and now took his club spot.

How many players are going to come out and say its a terrible signing, i hate that merkin, he's going to destroy this club. Outside of Nathan Peats joking about it online, you will only ever see players talking positively about these things.

He didn’t have to say anything at all. He could have just said the old throw away lined that players use. But RCG said he was happy and qualified it by explaining why. If he wasn’t happy, I doubt he would have gone into the details.
