The press conference

So does this mean that the Storm weren't a financial basketcase (or at least as bad as first thought). Figures like $6M in the red etc.

Is this because of the "creative" accounting saying that for example, catering was costing the club $4M a year when in reality, it was only $1M and the rest was going up players noses?

This is the exact reason why the players won't talk to the consultants. If they are seen as earning more than they're declaring, it's a criminal offence.

Tax evasion is not a crime you want to get convicted of, especially if you were compliant to it occurring. It will be a whopping big fine, jail time, or possibly both.

Ha, Strat Ive got this image of Inglis with a pencil behind his ear trying to fill out tax forms.

Ive heard stories of Players (not Storm players) not even knowing about houses they own because there manager buys it for them, Id say it would be the same with tax also.

Summary of Gallop's resonse (as quick as I can type it anyway)

Statement only then answering questions.

Time to face facts and concentrate on the future.
Breaches go beyond those admitted by management even though they signed stat decs stating they were truthful.
The clubs backflip on acceptance of the NRL penalties are a sad indictment of the club.

Pay cuts won't be allowed, the board are responsible, Moodie accepted the penalties publicly, the fact that the breach was much higher than admitted is an indictment on the board.

The penalties are 100% appropriate to protect the best interests of the game, not considering revisiting the penalties in light of the increased breaches at this point.

NRL's focus re: Melbourne Storm is on 2011
NRL will not be further investigating the salary cap breaches even though the NRL estimate is less than half of the breach amount.

NRL now want to look at any proposal that Melbourne Storm put to the NRL, but they must be fair to all NRL clubs.

Extending current contracts enabling players to take pay cuts is an option.

Peter O'Sullivan issue is for the Roosters to decide, the NRL will not take action against him.

NRL will not be discussing Sullivan with the Roosters, it's a matter for the Roosters.

Deloitte only acted on clear proof, however alarm bells surely would have been ringing (IMO David saying players knew)

Gallop very disappointed players didn't co-operate, says alarm bells should have been ringing for those asked to sign two contracts.
