from the front page of goal.com:

Inter Learn The Value Of A Dollar

Those who don’t understand history are doomed to repeat it. For years Inter have attempted to buy their way out of trouble. After each season of under-achievement, Massimo Moratti and the Nerazzurri would go out and spend millions on some of the world’s most luxurious talent.

But this summer the philosophy appears to be different. New president Giacinto Facchetti has overseen five major signings so far this summer, and only two have cost the club anything in the way of a transfer fee. And they were the astute signings of experienced full-back Giuseppe Favalli and young Argentine defender Nicolas Burdisso. Fellow countrymen Juan Veron and Esteban Cambiasso have arrived on loan and a free transfer respectively, Lampros Choutos came for nothing also, while Edgar Davids is expected to tie up his Bosman move in the very near future.

Lets not forget that Inter already have a squad brimming with talent and there is no need for the club to go out and spend big. But this hasn’t stopped them in the past. Are the Nerazzurri finally realising that continuity is the key? Keep what you have, but add a sprinkling of world class players to flesh out the squad. Afterall, only Veron of the confirmed new recruits can expect to go straight into the starting line-up. It’s clear Cambiasso, Favalli and Choutos have been signed as squad players, while Burdisso can expect to be introduced slowly. For this will be his first season away from the confines of the Argentinian league.

And Roberto Mancini is a cannier breed of coach than perhaps the club have had in the past. He knows the depth of talent he has at his disposal, and will surely not request that millions more be spent on tarting up the squad further.

Giovanni Trapattoni wants to bring Dainele Adani to Benfica where Traps is the new manager, while newly promoted Fliorintina (sp) want to sign Adani, Mohamed Kallon, and Javier Farinos. I would say Adani is on his way.

Inter's squad so far:

GOALKEEPERS
CORDAZ ALEX
FONTANA ALBERTO
TOLDO FRANCESCO

DEFENDERS
ADANI DANIELE
BURDISSO NICOLAS ANDRES
CANNAVARO FABIO
COCO FRANCESCO
CORDOBA IVAN RAMIRO
FAVALLI GIUSEPPE
MATERAZZI MARCO
NOSSA DEVIS
PASQUALE GIOVANNI
ZANETTI JAVIER

MIDFIELDERS
BIAVA FABRIZIO
CAMBIASSO ESTEBAN MATIAS
EMRE BELOZOGLU
FARINOS FRANCISCO JAVIER
KARAGOUNIS GIORGOS
KILY GONZALEZ CRISTIAN ALBERTO PERET
LAMOUCHI SABRI
REBECCHI MARIO
STANKOVIC DEJAN
VAN DER MEYDE ANDY
VERON JUAN SEBASTIAN
ZANETTI CRISTIANO

FORWARDS
ADRIANO LEITE RIBEIRO
CHOUTOS LAMPROS
CRUZ JULIO RICARDO
KALLON MOHAMED
MARTINS OBAFEMI
RECOBA ALVARO
VENTOLA NICOLA
VIERI CHRISTIAN

www.inter.it/en

So far Okan Buruk, Matias Almeyda, Carlos Gammarra, and Jeremie Brechet have all left, while Australian goal keeper Nathan Coe (who was in the youth team) has gone to PSV.

Who out of this would you seell/loan/release?

And buying Mexes, Ferrari and possibly Gilardino.

Just write us off. :D

We have De Rossi to replace Emerson. If you havent heard of him, you will soon. Quite possibly the best midfielder to come out of Italy in decades.

You're not seriously comparing Cordoba and Cannavaro are you?

Cordoba has always been an average defender. He is quite skilled at chopping though, ala Materazzi.

Are these two room-mates? ;-)

Come through Inter's youth set-up. Yet to play a first team game.

hybrid_tiger said:
BIAVA FABRIZIO Who?

Another youngster through the youth team.

REBECCHI MARIO Who?

Like Biava, and nossa, except he sent the season on loan at Genoa.

On loan at Siena I believe.

Just like every year eh? ;-) So many stars, so little success - the story of Inter.

But just for the record:

-------------------Toldo---------------------

Zanetti---Burdisso---Cannavaro---Favalli

-----Veron-------Davids----Cambiasso----

-----------------Stankovic-------------------

-----------Adriano------Vieri----------------

Still too many players in the squad.

Nobody has answered my question, which players should be shown the door?

For mine it would be:

Mohamed Kallon (release/loan)
Javier Farinos (loan)
Giovanni Pasquale (loan)
Daniele Adani (loan/sell)
Cristiano Zanetti (sell)
Fabrizio Briava (loan)
Sabri Lamouchi (sell)
Nicola Ventola (sell/loan)

What's happened to Thomas Helveg? Which club has he gone to?

Some problems have been "fixed" this season, but until the side performs on the pitch then no-one knows what is going to happen.

Veron: Needs to prove himself again. Who knows whether he is able to perform?
Davids: Could have stayed at Barca but went looking for the money. A bad sign, but if he is on form will be a great signing.
Cambiasso: A bench player at Real who never really impressed. Once again, has to prove himself.

There is too many players in the squad, and too many mediocre players at that. But I would agree that Inter's signings this season have been notably good. But as you would admit, signing players does not mean success. It all starts at the top...

What does everyone think of my Inter line-up?

Should be a good signing, although you better hope he didn't just go for the money.

Not bad of a line-up.

I think 8 defenders, 10 midfielders (need some depth just in case), 5 strikers (Van der Meyde can play up front), and three goal keepers.

So that would give me 26 players.
