Thailand have had a busy couple of weeks, hosting a provincial tour of NRL South Australia Rams and also hosting an Asian Cup featuring Philippines.. and Hungary.

Philippines pounded Hungary 72-0 and face Thailand for the Cup tonight.

Thailand played a 'World XIII' after South Africa pulled out of the competition. Not sure of result.
Hungary will face ASEAN XIII tonight.

NRLSA defeated "Thai Presidents XIII" 56-10 to a crowd of 300 people.

apparently Pakistan are playing the rebel Italians side who claim they are the real Italy. On the Pakistan Rugby League Facebook page;

Pakistan Rugby League
To host historic game against ITALY under the auspices of World Rugby League at the World Famous Jinnah stadium Islamabad, Saturday 18th November at 12 noon.

The event is being organised by Pakistan Rugby League Federation in collaboration with Sports Fever 360 and World Rugby League...

... well at least it's rugby league..

lol, ignore.
f**k them.
Hopefully the players involved (if even real) jump ship to the real RLIF after playing the game though. Drop the lure of participating in the next RLWC Qualifiers. Why would any players want to play for a fake organisation in a tiny sport.

Wonder if their results are scripted. Doubt even the member countries they claim to have are even real. Let alone players.. Can't they be sued for being a false representation?

Congratulations on the Philippines in taking out the Asia Cup 68 to 2. The gathering of nations has come to its conclusion with Hungary defeating ASEAN in the curtain raiser 34 to 26.

Philippines are a step above most other emerging nations. If they are eligible for qualification they are a serious chance to take a WC spot in 2021.
Their only loss was against Niue in 2014. They beat Serbia last year.
Would be interesting to see how they go against the likes of Canada, Jamaica, Cook Islands residents.

Why is it that the Philippines are a step above the other nations? Junior development, expats, good administrators? It would be good to know!

Having played against them...

Their halfback/captain/vice president Paul Sheedy is a step above with (very brief) NRL experience.
They've been at it longer than most emerging nations they play against, established in 2011.
They have good numbers in Sydney and Brisbane and a very strong core of Filipino-Australian A-Grade quality players with a sprinkling of higher level experience.
And they train more consistently and at a higher quality than most of their opposition.

I would love to see them play Cook Islands for a chance at WC qualification. If Cooks have their NRL players they win comfortably but if not.. who knows?

Expats and commitment. Not a bad recipe for success. Hope development comes into the equation soon?
