Lurking the Dragons forum someone posted that Hunt has kicked one field goal in his career.

The bloke has always had trouble with game management and icing games but if true that's a ridiculous stat for a halfback.

It's true. To make matters worse, he kicked it to go up 9-8 at halftime in a game we lost 22-9

My favourite was when Hunt chose to run it on the last inside their own half in the last 2 minutes of the 2018 Semi Final vs Souths, dumped it off to Mann, Mann got tackled, handover. Reyno then kicks field goal no.3 for the game to knock them out of the finals.

Hmm, successful field goals is an interesting look at halfbacks and their game management, haven't really though about this before. Quite eye opening.

The (arguably) top 3 current NRL halfbacks for game management have a field goal every 10-11 games. The half should demand the ball in those close games, produce those clutch moments.

Field goals in NRL career (data from RLP)
Nathan Cleary - 15 from 149 games (1 FG every 9.9 games)
Adam Reynolds - 25 from 265 games (1 FG every 10.6 games)
Daly Cherry-Evans - 26 from 295 games (1 FG every 11.3 games)
Shaun Johnson - 16 from 241 games (1 FG every 15.0 games)
Mitchell Moses - 12 from 211 games (1 FG every 17.5 games)
Luke Brooks - 7 from 202 games (1 FG every 28.8 games)
Ben Hunt - 1 from 303 games (1 FG every 303 games)

It would be more informative if it had total number of attempts as well.

If he cuts out Mann and went to Dufty instead it would have been very exciting to see what unfolds after that. Popular opinion is Hunt should have kicked long to try to force GP, but we were so fatigued we would have lost it anyway. It was a do or die moment and as usual he fluffed it.

We haven't made the finals since and your mob have made it to a GF and 4 PF's.

Couldn't help myself: I've never believed that Hunt is that good; certainly not a 'superstar'.

33 people have played at halfback in the comp so far this year.

Hunt is 1st for tries (just) and offloads. He is third for try assists and tackle busts (he's clever and physically strong for his size).

In every other stat he's basically around the bottom of the top quartile (ie; good but not great).

He's 3rd, 4th and 5th, respectively, for missed tackles, errors and penalties.

He doesn't kick goals - 21 of the other 32 halfbacks have done - this year.

He doesn't kick field goals - 13 of the other 32 halfbacks have done - this year.

Make of it what you will.

IMO - he is not a 'great' player at all and never has been. He's simply a very good, opportunistic, individual attacking player and quite a poor defender.

Really, no great loss IMO.

Gees, he's done well out of us though.

Dropped a premiership too.

Also, a few tackle five barge plays with the game on the line.

For his next contract, a meat pie and a Bunnings gift card should suffice.

That stat works the other way whereby the leading half should be closing out games and not having to be in the GP scenario.

The club has heaps to am
He's not exempt from the blame exactly but it's the clubs responsibility not his to put a competent team around him, just like Ponga at the Knights. Hunt's deal is hardly the largest one in the game, it's not like he has broken their cap beyond repair. His last couple of years there he's clearly been their best player by a mile. How much is Moses Mbye on?
The club has heaps to answer for but it's Ben that wanted hook, he also wanted to keep him while running last. He also wanted all his Qld buddies there too. Everyone could see Macca was past it but Ben kept publicly pushing for him to be the 9. He absolutely helped create the mess. He also prefers Mbye to Liddle at hooker. Cmon...

Thats alot of cards for one player to be holding.
He may have thrown all the toys out of the cot, but it appears the club bought him too many to begin with.

These stats don't account for 2 point field goals. Cleary for example has 1, so only actually 14.

Also, for Cleary, 5 of his 14 are in games won by more than 10 points, so not exactly clutch moments.
