He left us in a mess.
He took half our players, despite dsaying he wouldn't, he left us and endorsed a bloke who couldn't coach an u12 team to replace him.
He then flogged JD from us to be his assistant up there.

Sure he delivered us a premiership, something we are all grateful for, but gutted us when he left.

Poor old Newcastle didn't even get that, he took Tinklers cash, then buggered off when that ran out.
Which players did he take?

Sack Bennett!!

2 wins 3 losses this season. Not even a 50% success rate. The players aren't executing so the coaches head must fall right! They're a team of class players but aren't playing anywhere near the ability...it's the coaches job to lift their players. If only he was using his bench a bit better too

Sack Bennett!

Didn’t take Scott or Costigan when he left. Boyd yes. And McKinnon was a fringe player, no loss.

Didn't Scott go to newcastle? I know we didn't want him at the time but I thought Bennett took him also. Anyway, that one is more our fault.

At the end of the day, Wayne won us a premiership and I would prefer to remember him for that.

I will personally never forget that day. Thank you Mr Bennett. I will always be thankful for 2010.

Yes he did and we thanked him. He then left us in a real mess like he did when he left the donkeys and the knights.
Don’t let that aura deceive you. He is a selfish individual. So glad Browny call him out. Finally someone with balls stating the obvious. Unlike others in the media tippy toeing around the issue.

And Price and other coaches didn't leave us in a mess ????Who signed B Harrison/Groat/Nabuli/Rulon Nutira/Ailomau/Littlejohn/McCrone Etc etc....the blame lies with the club...Decent coaches attract quality players.

At least we won a Premiership/ 2 Minor Premierships,/The world club challenge under Bennett.I'll take that everyday of the week. I rest my case.

I am forever grateful as well. He brought us a premiership after 31 years. I just don’t think it was the miracle that everyone made it out to be.

The best thing that Bennett did was to bring the right players to the club like Boyd, Weyman, Smith, Costigan and Fien. And he got Sowie playing out of his skin.

But the nucleus was already there. Gaz, Coops, Hornby, Young, Nighty, Bmoz, Creagh, all bona fide rep players battle hardened from semi final campaigns in 01, 02, 04, 05, 06 and 08.

It all came together in 2010 and Bennett architected it but he had plenty to work with.

I really enjoy Sowie on the radio these days, I think it's in 104.9 with Dell, have you heard him help call the game and give his insights?

He is really good, Dell is too

They mix it up with a bit of fun

Didn't they do this last year also but still finished in the top 4. I wouldn't underestimate Bennett.

I’d be shocked if the Broncos were top 4 this year the way they are playing.

If Bennett truly is the master coach, he’d find a way to get them there as they still have a lot of stars in their roster.

Remembering the hole we fell into a little more than half way through 2011 that Wayne couldn't pull us out of, he may just not have the answer for the Broncs either

I didn't bring it up..just answering the question...to be honest, not to fussed. Wayne bought us a premiership in 2010...so he's ok in my books.
I hear the "Bennett ripped us apart after he left" argument quite often.
What responsibility did the club management have leading up to and after his departure?
It wasn't Bennett's responsibility to establish a succession plan.
We all know he wanted a longer term at St. George and Doust wasn't prepared to offer it.
Then he made a frantic and failed effort to re-sign him.
Boyd was always going to leave and the departure of Scott and McKinnon could have been covered with some foresight and proactive roster management.
We also lost Weyman, Saffy and Costigan at nearly the same time which, in total, decimated our premiership winning pack.
Bennett came to St. George and delivered a premiership the likes of which we hadn't seen before or since for that matter.
I have nothing but respect for Bennett and am not prepared to make him totally responsible for what transpired after his departure.
The club was 100% responsible for losing JD. He was the most qualified "rookie" available with a sparkling CV and undeniable success and results to recommend him.
JD didn't want to leave but was given no choice.
The Illawarra faction had already anointed McGregor and were not about to admit their mistake.
3 years of fumbling and bumbling, amateur hour coaching followed as a result.
If Bennett didn't snap JD up, some other club would have.
I am also not prepared to write him off now.
He is surely nearing the end of his career but that does not diminish his experience and tenacity.

All very true Dennis, easy to forget these things, a good reminder of the truth.

The club let Smith and Costigan go because they didn't want to pay their worth.

Smith was a gun.

Then they thought Beau Scott was getting on in age and let him go 2 yrs too early.

The above three leaving plus Weyman ended our hope of more success.

Doust was and is pathetic.

Also the time wasted by appointing Price as head coach .
