I had actually forgotten about him, but I do remember him at the Tigers. I didn't know he was troubled off the field though.

Laurie, 32, went to Coffs Harbour Local Court last week for two alleged shootings.

The prop forward made his NRL debut for the Wests Tigers in 2008. He then joined the Panthers in 2010 and then Newcastle for one year in 2012."

I remember Gary Freeman had a massive hard on for him. There was a game at Leichhardt where Laurie was named on the bench and through the first 25 minutes the only commentary Whiz offered was 'why didn't they start Laurie? Why isn't Laurie on the field'.

Seemed like he had a lot of natural talent with no brainpower to back it up.

I remember Dane used to hang around Redfern back when he was with Penrith. Apparently Petro would call him and ask why he wasn't at training, he'd make up some excuse about feeling sick or what ever and then kind of laugh it off.
Felt sorry for him really, he wasn't a gangster or anything, just didn't fit into the footy club culture.

I don't think I've ever seen such a naturally talented player waste their talent to the degree he did. He honestly could have been one of the best forwards in the game.
