This is a lot more then just a name it is a theme, and a promotional dream. Juniors would really get behind this idea, and adults would also.

What other name would suit the GOLD COAST?

The Ground

Our new football stadium should deliver what the Coast expects, a massive night out for the kids and adults alike.

Gold Coasters and Tourists alike would thrive to a stadium modeled after the Tamper bay home ground in the United States called the Buccaneer Cove.

The centerpiece of Buccaneer Cove is the majestic, 103-foot-long ship, an authentic replica of an early 1800's pirate ship, arguably one of the most recognizable stadium feature in the world.

The most menacing aspect of the pirate ship is its massive 9'x7' skull and crossed swords facing the playing field which features huge, glowing red eyes and a mouth that breathes smoke. Additionally, eight cannons celebrate Buccaneer touchdowns by releasing thundering cannon fire, smoke, confetti, mini-footballs and a variety of Buc merchandise into the stands. The ship will also be complete with working rigging and a crew to raise and lower its huge 32x50 foot sails.

Massive enough to be a striking image from any spot in the stadium, the majestic ship looms out over the crowd in the north end zone.

Ship Length 103'

Ship Weight 43 tons

Ship Height 78'

Bow Detail 9'x7'

Ship Width 32'

Swords 16' each

The ship was constructed over a two-month period using, among others, the following materials:

5.5 tones of concrete

14 tons of steel

700 yards of sails

1 mile of rigging

300 feet of rope

60 gallons of paint

64,000 linear feet of wood trim

The ship's dock serves as an interactive entertainment area from which patrons enjoy the most unique vantage point in the National Football League. Adding to the festive atmosphere is a larger-than-life interactive talking parrot that sits perched at the ship's stern.

Located adjacent to the ship is an old-time dock that serves as the site for pre-game and halftime shows performed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cheerleaders, Tampa Bay's 44-person cheerleading troupe that includes a 10-member band of pirates who carry the signature red Buccaneer attack flags.

All areas of Buccaneer Cove and the Ship's facilities are ADA disabled ramp accessible so that all fans can benefit from this unique setting. With a full menu of food and beverages, plentiful facilities and an excellent view of the action on the field, Buccaneer Cove is as animated as the 19th-century pirate village after which it is modeled.

We would of course design the food courts in old fashioned styles like Dreamworld has, and create a whole atmosphere the whole family would love.

Main bar could be called the plank, and the kids area the Scallywags ect: the whole concept would tie in the ground, team, atmosphere and make game day not only about football, but a day/night out that is a must on the Gold Coast calendar.

The Mascots

Unlike some of the other suggestions for names, the Pirates give countless opportunities for Mascots.

Parrots

And of course the new Captain Charger
captain_charger.jpg

And of course countless options for cheerleaders and ground stewards

Merchandise

Like any successful team, a great selection of merchandise is a must. The Pirates theme provides anything from toys, costumes, and stuffed animals on top of the football apparel already in stock.

The fans could wear eye patches or massive Captain hats similar to the Cowboy hats the North Queensland fans wear.

accss_parrot7001_s.jpg

Marketing

The name Pirate unlike the other suggestions makes the crowd a part of the team, they are not following a logo, they are becoming a Pirate.

The Gold Coast would unite as one, and feel the presence of the new team well before the gates open in 2007, with a marketing opportunity only few clubs in history have managed.

With a well constructed advertisement campaign, the expectation of the Gold Coast could reach fever pitch by opening day 2007.

Junior squads could be called Buccaneers, blanketing the team and its junior squads and creating a feeling of loyalty.

Also with the The DOG & PARROT Bar at Robina, a Central meeting place could be arranged easily.

So are you a Pirate ???

If so get your new name me matey

Lets get this straight. The Pirates is a sh*t name. Sorry, but to me its just a crap name thought up by kids who like Peter Pan or 'boys own' adventure novels.

It's akin to a Netball Team being called 'The Barbie Dolls'.

'The Stingrays' or 'The Stingers' will work on a number of different levels.

From Wikipedia:

Raymond James Stadium is a stadium for American football and soccer located in Tampa, Florida. It is home to the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers as well as the University of South Florida football team, and was formerly home to the MLS's Tampa Bay Mutiny. The stadium seats 65,000, though it is expandable for special events. The stadium also hosts the annual Outback Bowl. In 2001, it hosted Super Bowl XXXV. It will host the Super Bowl again in 2009.

The stadium was completed in 1998, at a cost of $168.5 million, publicly financed. The naming rights were bought at $32.5 million for 13 years by Raymond James, a financial company. It was built to replace Tampa Stadium. It was designed by HOK Sport + Venue + Event, which has designed numerous stadiums in recent years.

One of the most recognizable features of the stadium is a 103-foot, 43-ton steel-and-concrete replica pirate ship, which fires soft-rubber footballs and confetti each time that the Bucs score points. The cannons fire six times for a touchdown, once for an extra point or if the Bucs get into their opponent's red zone, twice for a safety or two point conversion, and three times for a field goal.

This could work, with a set pattern as to how many times the cannons would fire per score, etc.

And as to all of the people who say "we need something original, not a yank name," let me remind you that pirates aren't American, they can/could be found the world over.

Titans isn't Australian either. Besides, all of the Aussie names that don't sound stupid are already taken. Would you really want to cheer a footy team named the GOANNAS?

I agree with Willow 100%.

The Stingers have a real tough sound to them... real suitable to Rugby League.

"How good were those Stingers yesterday arvo"... just sounds right. Pirates is far too childish and completely unrellated to the area.

Pirates is a gay name?? Unlike Bunnies or Roosters, ???

Too American? like Broncos, Eagles, Cowboys, Bears, Panthers??

Gold Coast has the chance to tap into a massive tourist market, we need to encourage it, that means making the day at the football more interesting then a racial brawl and a 16 yr old kid in a 30 dollar mascot outfit.

I like the name Stingrays, but by using it we would be missing out on a massive marketing chance, and becoming just another club in another code.

Titans i dont like, what would our marketing be then? those 2 fat slobs selling a shed comes to mind.

btw what is wrong with marketing a game like America does? they do it better then anywhere else on earth.
