Rodney Howe was late bloomer.

Plodded about in reserve grade with Newcastle and Western Reds for 4 years, playing a handful of first grade games.
Decided to get carved and hit the gym.
Broke out in 97 and unbelievably carved up the opposition in first grade week to week with amazing stamina. Selected for NSW then later for Kangaroos.

Although he remained in rep sides for the next few years, he mysteriously never did match those 97 and 98 performances.

Steriods do wonderful things.
