NSW Game 2 team

Don't like the Galloway selection at all. Was selected in Game 3 last year and looked a couple of gears too slow for Origin. Not an Origin player IMO. As I've posted before, good club form doesn't necessarily mean a player is ready for rep, or is a rep player. There need to be certain attributes selectors need to identify in a player to be suitable for this level. NSW has just been through so many props because they are simply in good club form against inferior opposition in the lead-up to the series, but then have no impact at all in Origin.

He played 10 minutes, you can't judge his origin career on that. Besides, he's been better than Tim Grant who is his main competitor for a hypothetical 4th prop spot, and he has been in camp and played a game.

10 minutes or 40 minutes. he's still too slow.

Woods and Watmough look likely to be in for Buhrer and T Rex.

Grant will no doubt get a shot one day.

Woods and Watmough for Buhrer and Williams do appear to be the only changes Stuart is most likely to make tonight.

Stuart's likey Game 2 team
FB - B.Stewart
RW - Uate
RC - J Morris
LC - Jennings
LW - Hayne
FE (R) - Carney
HB (L) - Pearce
AH - Farah
RF - G Stewart
LF - Lewis
MF - Bird
PF - Gallen
PF - Tamou
INT - Creagh
INT - Watmough
INT - Merrin
INT - Woods

There's option Lewis might be shifted onto the bench and Watmough replacing him as starting left forward, or perhaps Bird shifted further left and Watmough in the middle. I'd prefer to keep Lewis in though to maintain continuity of the starting (& club) left-side combination.

Problem with above squad is the abundance of players who prefer the left-side. Morris and Jennings in the backs, and also, all of Lewis, Bird, Watmough, Creagh generally play and are more effective from the middle left to left side of the field. G. Stewart is the only genuine right-edge forward in that squad.

Riccio having a each way bet?

But Grant, the 111kg Panthers enforcer, is a narrow favourite.

But Woods, the 105kg Tigers enforcer, is a clear favourite.

Lol what shocking journalism by Riccio. 2 articles written by him with conflicting views.

either way, another prop will be selected for game 2.

what surprises me is how he has shifted Gallen to 13 and puts a prop in the starting team. this means Lewis probably gets shifted to the bench alongside two other lighter forwards in Creagh and Watmough. That's essentially 3 backrowers on the bench. Pointless IMO. Keep Gallen even tighter in a prop role and have two fresh big boppers ready to go off the bench................and use them!!

in order to get more impact from the whole forward interchange, i think Gallen needs to play around 60mins and utilise fresh legs at stuart's disposal. it's an absolute waste picking interchange players to play 10 minutes which stuart has done in every origin match.

I agree that Gallen needs to remain in the front row. Like someone mentioned he plays a good role at lock for the sharks because they need him there to roam and ball play a little. If he roams for us, he may just get in the way of better ball playing locks / backrowers such as Bird, Lewis, G Stewart for example.
Keep Gallen in the middle, he topped metres gained, all runs and metres gained per run out of all props in the game, he is great there.
Also, having 2 specialist props on the bench (in most likely Woods and Merrin) will also allow Gallen to have a 15-20min rest on the bench. 60-65 Minutes is plenty for Gallen, we don't need him to play the 80.

I still think Ricky will find some way to troll us all by squeezing Ben Creagh in there somewhere...

I don't think the backline will change, and I think the only changes will be Buhrer out and Williams out, probably for Watmong and a prop (Grant or Woods). In other words, what NSW of Origin said above.

Same Starting 13. Bench - Creagh, Watmough, Woods, Merrin will be the team imo.

Creagh at least will be playing wide this game, but still...

Well I did call for Gallen to move to lock, but surely three back rowers on the bench is a joke. Another prop for Creagh and the team would be pretty much ideal.

Grant it is. At least that leaves Woods to play for the Tigers against Melbourne.

Penrith has done well to get 3 in Origin. It reminds me of when Balmain was running last but still had Brasher, Sironen and Elias in the NSW team.

Woods is unlucky but his time will come, Grant should do alright and good to see Gallen back at lock

Grant instead of Woods is fairly surprising. Cracking side though, happy with that. Carney very very lucky to be there tho

Woods is better so as a QLD fan I am very happy that Grant has been picked. That said no useless Buhrer so at least NSW have a chance.
