Despite what is said in the media, Mary really only cares about Mary. It's the easiest option he follows not necessarily the best option for the future of our Club. Other Clubs groom and build their young guns to be ready for first grade when needed - look at Melbourne, Brisbane and the Roosters.

Surely, pathways should include a development program which identifies boy shape, weight and experience in a certain position or positions. Field, although announced as our fullback for 2018, is way behind on all of the above. He is playing at 6 in reserve grade, doing a poor job of it and his body is feeling the effects of being tossed around like a rag doll.

I say it again, Recruitment and pathways should be a two man job and both should be reporting to the head coach. There needs to be synergy between these important positons within the Club.

The football committee could steer this group of 3 in the right direction however, in the end what recruitment and pathways do, should always be in line with what the head coach has in mind. It would be up to the football committee, who the head coach reports to, to instruct, advise and direct the head coach as necessary.

This is what we were saying last year when Benji & Widdop kept crashing into each other with their sideways running yet very little was done(from memory Mary dropped Benji in the 2nd last round). It just goes to show a coach who is conservative & short of ideas on how to develop the squad. Opportunities for players last year are just as available this year but we don't get the change again. In twelve months time this is likely to be the same topic under discussion.

Last year he kept Lafai, Rein, Benji.
This year he got it right at the start of the season with Lafai but then sticks with Mc Crone and Mc Donald and the Nighty to FB strategy.
In the mean time plenty of youth just waiting to get a go and plenty of fans wishing it.
