It hurts to say, but i actually share the same opinion as you... Make a play for Bellamy for 2019 and just put up with Mary for one more year.
Either that, or make a play for Toovey and give him a go. Either way, we NEED a Bellamy type coach to really take the squad we have forward.
With Bellamy as coach, our roster will win 2 premierships in 3 years, without a doubt.
With Mary, well, it will be more of the same.... no pleasure, just pain,... a great squad and a great game... falling short year after year, and that lads, is a shame... deflecting blame.... drowning in pain... saying its ok, but we know Mary is to Blame!!!

"Our roster will win 2 premierships in 3 years without doubt" with bellamy.
Wow thats pretty full on. He's never won 2 premierships in 3 years with any of his storm teams full of immortals yet he would with our guys? Dufty, nighty, lafai, aitken, Macdonald........
    Not sure about that.

Mate i believe our squad is extremely talented, just lacking a coach that can put together a game plan to bring out there best.
Hunt and Widdop will be world class, Vaughan, Graham, JDB, Sims, Frizzell, thats a top notch forward pack.
Dufty Mann Nighty Lafai Aitkens are all quality players, Bellamey would see Dufty as the next Billy Slater, And he would turn Nene into a damaging finisher.
A master coach with a roster like ours would make it happen.

    He might.
But outside the rorting storm system he is unproven.
With the NSW Origin team he did nothing.....less than Daley did.

I have a family member whom is the General Manager at a large Hotel chain in Australia. During his years of service he has organised & attended many corporate speaking events. He has told me that Craig Bellamys motivational speeches are the very best he has heard. Attended by Olympians & Corporate business people, he claimed Bellamy inspires, motivates and creates a team bond far beyond just Rugby League.
FYI my nephew supports the Sharks and has also been involved in speaking engagements with Shane Flanagan & Steve Price and claims they would put a dog to sleep listening to them. He also claimed Bennett had been the best he heard until Bellamy went to another level. He claimed his Hotel Management team would just about walk over fire if instructed by Bellamy.
He's certainly not overrated & is very well respected within Australian Sport.

jesus christ. Imagine thinking Bellamy is overrated. This is the kind of analyis paralysis that ensures we're stuck with Price/McGregor/Young/Hornby/Farrar/Brown ad nauseum until the end of time. We prefer "completely unrated" to "possibly overrated".

    Anyway.. sack McGregor

    The simple equation is
Best NRL Brand St. George should have Best NRL Coach Bellamy

At the risk of harping on about this subject too much, yes- The Storm did rort the system to retain their top stars and were heavily punished for it, having 2 premierships taken off them. But the top players involved, especially the Big Three, Slater, Cronk & Smith were brought to The Storm as virtual unknowns from Qld and developed under Bellamy. He has also, over his 14 years at the helm turned many unwanted players from other clubs into champions. Coaching the NSW side for a few weeks of the year is a universe away from coaching an NRL side over a long period. His record speaks for itself.

Just take a look at the Storms wingers. Just average before they joined the storm. Look at them now.

I fail to see what rorting the cap has to do with the mans coaching ability?
Bellamy has turned rejects from other clubs into solid first graders, that is more a sign of a mans coaching ability then if the back office rorts the cap.
Bellamys man skills, and coaching record speaks for itself.
To suggest we wouldnt benefit from him coaching us is laughable.
And you cant seriously compare 2 weeks with a team (SOO) as a indicator of a mans coaching skills.
Bellamy at the dragons would be the best thing since Bennett at the dragons, hands down.

When you are coaching a team that spends ONE MILLION more than your opponents....ofcourse its far easier to coach better players you have kept for years....or signed unfairly.

If a coach has the games best players because he can unfairly afford the best.....ofcourse his real coaching ability cannot be gauged against his peers.

It is not a level playing field.

He had an unfair and MASSIVE advantage.

    He damn well cheated.

Can he coach a standard everyday team?

    You dont get that?

Re SOO, its not a coaching gig.....its a man management and motivational gig for 6 weeks ora bit more.
He didnt get them up for it.

Josh Ado-Carr was never average. Was very highly rated at the Tigpies before the Storm nabbed him.

DP, l agree that St George Illawarra should have the best NRL coach ( Bellyache) but l’m not sure who the best NRL band is ......... possibly The Saints with Stranded.

Just a quick question , when we referrer to St George Illawarra , are the 11 straight Premierships and the rest still associated with us now or is that just history ? Is St George Illawarra only showing 1 Premiership win 2010 ? I hope not ...

SOO is players in camp for 2 weeks at a time. 3 two week periods only, so that doesnt make a coach a shit coach or great coach.
Mal Meninga is not regarded as someone that will be a "great NRL coach" based on SOO results.
One quick question, were the storm over the cap this year? How did they do this year?
    Just as i thought. Next......

They have built this team through all those years of cheating, bringing and keeping young players like smith, cronk, slater and others to the club....and only keeping them by cheating.

They won because they cheated to keep their main stars together.

And in spite of cheating, the storm get knocked out in the semi final stages....as much as any team.

Re SOO, if it is good enough for coaches like Daley and Sticky to lose their jobs by not winning series, it is also VERY fair to judge bellamy on his SOO results.

UNTIL bellamy coaches and wins with other teams.... and not just with one team who has massively rorted, he is not great.

But if you consider him great, you are allowed to!

Yeah, until Bellamy wins titles with other clubs his legacy will be incomplete.
    He must think about that.
Whether he has the energy and ability to transfer his whole system to the Dragons is another matter. Would he have the power to clean out the Old Boys' deadwood? Remedy the choker syndrome?
I don't think he has the balls to move camp anyway.
Even Bennett lost 9 on the trot in 2011.
Bennett brought a core of winners with him, whereas Bellamy would be without Smith, Slater & Cronk in 2019.
Bennett's tarnished his legacy with Newcastle & left 2 clubs in tatters. That's a fail.
If he'd gone to the Bunnies he'd've won 2 titles and been truly famous.
Poor JetSki must quietly wonder, with the roster he's got, why the stars never align.
Mate, the players either want to bleed for you or they don't.
    For you they never will.
It's about personality, organisational skill & sheer nous.

It's about coaching gravitas - aka real men like Provan & Gibson.

    Where's your shame?

FMD this is a great club who needs great people - not hacks!

So Mary, fall on your sword & think about the fans & give us Des & let Doust stop dreaming of Bellamy fairy tales
