I get the impression there's not much wrong with the game but nobody bought it in protest toward EA's thirst for in-game spending. Anyways I took up the $32 offer on Amazon along with Assassin's Creed Origins for $45.

The reason it has copped flak is because of the game play issues in "Galactic Assault" mode, which is the main multi-player mode with up to 40 players taking part in one game. As I said earlier, part of the issue is too many players go with the "specialist" class (i.e. sniper) so if you start with a different class (e.g. Assault, Heavy or Officer) chances are you will get killed before you even get within your weapons range by one of these snipers.

Also there are two hero characters that are considered to be massively over powered - Emperor Palpatine and Chewbacca. The problem with Palpatine is one of his lightening powers will shoot through solid walls, killing people many people when they can play as an Imperial Hero go straight for the Emperor as soon as they can. With Chewbacca it is a combination of two of powers with a few star cards make him nigh un-killable, or allow him to legally insta-kill people.

There are also allegations of players hacking the game to make their characters in game invincible in these modes, and I have had my suspicions about a few players 've run across too. Then add in having unbalanced teams, where you can have one side full of relatively high level players (meaning they have buffed star cards which have been upgraded) against another full of relative rookies leading to lopsided battles.

Personally I've stuck to either "Starfighter Assault" (which only has 6 maps, but you fly a starfighter in space combat in teams of up to 12 on each side) or the "Heroes v Villains" where it is 4 v 4 combat with the big name characters. I have quit the occasional Heroes v Villains game due to some issues, such as lopsided teams (sometimes brought about by a player on my team not doing anything after a game starts) but with Starfighter Assault, I find players drop in and out of games that over a round or two the teams will often start to balance out and at least be competitive.

The big problem which hit the game, as Walt alluded to was the original plan by EA to have in-game spending. However, as I said up thread, they turned it off and, so far has not come back.

Apparrently the next big patch, which is supposed to add some new content, is due in March.

Absolutely you are right about Palpatine you’ve got no chance with the guy the other day the guy playing him got most of the kills like 100 plus..

I've got it, but have played it maybe a dozen times. I don't have an online account (ps4)

The fact there is no offline fighter game modes is bordering on criminal.

I agree with you. I dare say this may have occurred as EA rushed the game's development to get it into stores sooner than was originally planned. Also the Starfighter Assault mode was done by Criterion Software, whilst DICE and EA did the rest of the game, and it being rushed EA probably didn't even think about an arcade mode for Starfighters.

Everyone always rags on games like cod and battlefield but at least their progression systems are on point
I have casually enjoyed Battlefield 1 but sunk god knows how many hours into 3 and 4. The progression system in BF1 is terrible and huge factor in why I'm not heavily invested in it, plus the terrible roll out of additional maps.

My comment came from the old battlefield games but mainly cod where you do challenges to progress your favorite weapons

21 March 2018 sees an overhaul of the game's progression system. Crafting parts will disappear to be replaced by skill points. You earn skills point as you complete various parts of the game. One issue, you can only spend the skill points on the class you earned them with so (for example) no playing Starfighter Assault, buying loot crates from the credits you earned and then using the crafting parts on your heroes or troopers.

You won't lose any unspent crafting part though. In April, a further update will allow you to trade in any unspent crafting parts at the rate of 40 crafting parts for 1 skill point. To upgrade star cards, you use skill points, with 1 point upgrading a card by 1 level. Hence to acquire and then make a star card an epic level (i.e. purple) will cost you 4 skill points as opposed to the 40+80+120+480 you need under the current system.

Micro-transactions are being brought back in, but you cannot buy skill points with them. Merely for "cosmetic" items like skins, emotes and victory poses. Starcards will only be earned using skill points or various in-game challenges.

Also anything any player has earned to date (Star Cards and upgrades, weapons, skins, emotes, victory poses etc) will stay with them. They won't be re-set.
