Tedesco rumour

The Dragons have Dugan, they just need to agree on a price. The Dragons have Hunt and McInnes so the main position left to sort out in their spine is five-eighth. If it is not to be Widdop, Mary should be at least testing what he has in-house and Millward should be using his white board eraser to make room for an external purchase in the case that Field / Dufty / Mann / Hutch don't fit the bill for 2018.
I hear this argument all the time, that we should be blooding a new half. There are issues with that argument. We know B. Hunt is coming and he has the 7 jersey all wrapped up. To blood a young half I think would mean getting Widdop's nose out of joint (unless we have already told him he is not required next year). Yes we could dump McCrone but he is the one that Hunt will be coming to directly replace (not only number but role in the team), and therefore blooding a young half would sent a very clear message IMO to Widdop and the rest of the team making them unstable.

In addition to that, regardless of what we think on the 2017 season, we still need to field our best side. Yes there is a strong argument to say that McCrone is not in our best side but that is not about "blooding a half" that is about replacing a plodder with someone with a lot more potential upside. Sadly in the end it is a mute point because I can't see Mary removing McCrone regardless.

that's understandable but the easy option would be to drop McCrone, move Widdop to HB and blood the youngster in the 6 (if it doesn't work out, they can switch during the game). McGregor should of put Mann on with 20-15 mins remaining, limiting him to under 10mins and only getting two touches won't show you anything...

The problem is that Mary is not testing players in the position we need to or may need to fill in 2018. If McCrone was playing well, then no one would be asking for him to be dropped and so it would be Widdop moving from 6 maybe to Illawarra or maybe to fullback.

WE NEED TO FIND A PARTNER FOR HUNT IN 2018.

if Mary really did care about the quality of the Dragons spine, he would embrace the opportunity of testing Mann at 6 or 7. If Mann fails then move on to Field.

Goddamn it would be upsetting seeing him in a broncos jersey.

Makes sense though. Criminally underutilized here. And demetriou would know how good his ceiling is.
But why is Mary ignoring Milne? It seems to me that there should be a higher reason than Mary's personal preference. Milne performed well last year and was by far our best centre. Something must have happened during the off-season because now Milne is not even our second best centre.

I can't speak to the preseason justification, but at this stage, we're 3 wins of 4 games and you don't change a winning team.

You know that's not true. There is plenty of occasions when a player from a winning team - even if he is playing well - is replaced by a regular first graded coming back from injury or suspension.

Milne was a regular first grader and in my opinion, was last year playing much better than both Aitken and Lafai.

That is too superstitious for my liking. The team should be seeking perfection and McCrone has been atrocious with several examples of poor play and poor execution over a number of games now. It is not isolated.

Why should Mary think about 2018 and blooding anyone when he won't even be the coach? If he was offered an extension then it's his job to worry about that.

He has to think of the best 17 for 2017 and who is going to get him what he thinks is the best result possible.

As for Milne, apparently he isn't performing well in reserves so why reward him with FG in a side that's 3/4.

Why do you turn on McCrone on every thread? There is a thread dedicated to McCrone. I agree, his kicking has been very poor but there is a very good reason he has been given the task of kicking in general play. Because he has proven most adept at it of the current team. Personally I would like to see McInnes kick more. Other than that, his creativity and ball playing has been piss-poor but he isn't the only half at St George guilty of that and his salary is much lower.

Exactly, even more to the point Mary has to think about the first 6 games, he can't even afford to think about the remainder of 2017.

And when he was our best performing centre we rewarded him with reserve grade no wonder he doesn't put in would you ? I personally wouldn't

I'll say it again, a winning team should always be changed, especially while their winning, not when they're not winning. It doesn't need to be wholesale changes but gradual or incremental especially where weaknesses are identified.

If your car's running well - no need to service it right? Do we only change a tyre when it's flat?

Changing a winning team is the only way to keep a competative edge.

Milne is not deserving of a first grade call up - he's been average at best in reserves!1 he needs to make his case and he's not!!

How could the rumour started on Saturday possibly say it would be announced on Monday, when there is a 10 day cooling off period before contracts can be announced?

If they were ready to announce on Monday, it would mean Tedesco would have signed even before JT was sacked.

If he indeed signed over the weekend, they wouldn't be able to announce until next week right?

If my memory serves me just one more time, didn't McCrone score a try against the warriors. That seems to be overlooked.
