The Joint Venture Is Broken

Given that's penned by an old Western SUburbs man, I thought Roy's article was actually quite reasonable to both sides. It's certainly no attack on the Balmain side of the JV

Agreed, I thought it was well balanced.

Imo the JV should concede the naming of the NSW Cup side to Wests. Just run Western Suburbs magpies as the single reserve grade side, there's no (well, not much) money in NSW Cup branding anyway. The Balmain side don't seem too concerned about losing BRET - after all the Tiger lives on in the NRL. Let them have it if it keeps them happy.

I'll admit, yeah I probably wouldn't care personally.

My points on the naming of the State Cup side/colors etc were more for these guys who whinge about not getting a fair go then demand the state cup side play in Wests colors.

I mean c'mon guys lol

To me there's a simple solution:

If Balmain can't afford a NSW Cup side on their own (they need help from Ryde Eastwood) and Balmain want a single team in the NSW Cup , then why can't the NSW Cup team be Wests Magpies?

Balmiain's identity is more strongly reflected in the NRL with Wests Tigers than the Magpies are.

Or another alternative is to put a team in the (more cheaply run) Bundy Cup.

Exactly. Western Suburbs Magpies are kep happy being the sole team in NSW Cup. The Balmain Tigers brand lives more strongly inn teh NRL with Wests Tigers.

And maybe Balmain can field a senior side in the Bundy Cup?

It's clear that people here are seeing this as a Wests Magpies v West/Balmain Tigers thing.

In reality, its 3 clubs.

Balmain - Home Ground Leichhardt
Magpies - Home Ground - Campbelltown
Wests Tigers - Home Ground SFS

The problem here isn't at all with Balmain, its with the Wests Tigers.

Since Sheens arrival, he's been hell bent on removing the Wests Magpies and Balmain 'sides' and having it all under the Wests Tigers umbrella.

Buts its a JV, that would never happen. We should stop trying to force something that can't exist onto the two parties that created it.

Would magpies really be any happier if they got 1 or 2 games more per year?

Really?

Of course not, because its hardly any different to the current arrangement.

They'd be lying if they said they didn't want at least 75% of home games at Campbelltown.

Juniors isn't the issue here.

The issue as it appears to me, is that the Magpies feel insignificant. And to some extenet they are right to feel that way. But I also feel that Balmain is just the same. By coming out and being aggressive and making threats, they are trying to sway the JV in their favour by more than 50%. They need to realise that their issue is with WT not Balmain.

Given the situation of Balmain and Wests Clubs, neither can afford to abandon the JV now, as it would be a surefire death. They are too heavily dependant on the NRL side.

A compromise needs to be met. Get a new home ground, halfway between Campbelltown and Balmain, play half the home games there and the other half at SFS

Players train at Campbelltown and Leichhardt.

NSW Cup contains teams from Wests and Balmain.

Keep the Magpies and Balmain seperate from the NRL side.

WT need to stop trying to please both sides, its never going to work. Just give them both the same hard deal where they can both be treated the same, equally, and be told to live with it.

The two clubs need WT more than WT needs them.

Doesn't fall under the claim that juniors are being forced out unfairly.

Farah as a junior, and a senior has always been the far superior player.

Israel's family moved to Brisbane when he was 15yo. Again, not something you can sledge the JV over.

Hayne, well if you believe someone's story on WTF, it was the incompetence of WESTERN SUBURBS that resulted in Hayne playing for Parramatta.

(Not saying you are sledging them Westie, just the guys earlier in thread who are suggesting we are wasting juniors)

FWIW, our current first grade squad would lap the above team by 60

Ah, right.

Just looking at blokes from the area that came good. Merely a comment on the value of the area. Trimarchi did alright for himself too.

In which universe were hayne, inu and folau ever wests juniors?

You can say they grew up in Minto or whatever but they were never aligned with us. If you go that way then Fulton is a parra junior. Can't have it both ways.

Sheens has said if he was at the club when Melbourne were after Hoffman it would nt have happened, given his record with juniors I believe him.

Also it's my understanding that groat was brought to st Greg's by wests tigers, so technically he is a true wests tigers junior, not wests magpies.

Flanagan plays on the bench for cronullas nsw cup team and mataka??please, may aswell claim fitzhenry while your at it.
