The reality is that not a lot of effort was put into examining how the size of the field is going to impact the product. A greatly reduced field size plus first game of the season rustiness is likely to produce a low scoring plodfest - not the excitement fest we know is league at its best and what we want to spruik.

Would not surprise that Darth Vlad did something radical like reducing player numbers to 12 or 11 for these games
Greatly reduced? Sure. But if the length of the field is trimmed by 2-4m and the in goals shortened a bit the difference will be marginal

Which is absolutely amateurish. This is the NRL - not some pub comp out west.
Lol you realise this happens all the time in far bigger comps than the NRL? European soccer pitches have some variation in them- certainly more than what’s described there.
If it’s a choice between a state of the art stadium with a slightly non regulation pitch vs some crap 3rd tier venue with regulation dimensions you’d take the good stadium every time.

Soccer has a slightly bigger field than league but there will be no World Cup games at the Los Vegas stadium because its too narrow.

It’s big enough for soccer friendlies though so not too far off regulation size. Just doesn’t make World Cup standard cause FIFA control that more tightly

I've seen plenty of Rugby League played on soccer fields in England - and the smaller fields significantly impact the game. The RLWC Final at Old Trafford last year was a disgrace, and it's a very similar size to Allegient Stadium (if the above specs are correct).

One of great things about Rugby League is how the players attack the ball when it's close to the dead ball line and sideline - or the leaping tries in the corners. You lose all of this if players are at risk of crashing into a barricade at speed. Let's all remember Luke Lewis doing his shoulder over there sliding into the fence and losing 80% of the following season.

If they can push the bowl back so we get a full sized field, at least 7m in-goals and a safe distance between the field and the nearest hard surface I'm happy. Otherwise I'd be happy for my team to send a bunch of reserve graders.

Ugh home game, and we lose a home game at magic round when we play Broncos
But hasn't they been a manly choice.. thought theyd been taking their home game to suncorp for years to get the big attendance cash benefit from being the home team with a Broncos crowd.

Yeah, but they could’ve worked this to whoever plays Broncos gets away at Magic, and a Manly away game, with Souths being away at Magic Round.

True.. maybe manly won't play broncos at magic this year because of Vegas. Manly might have decided they get more benefit from this game in their submission to go to Vegas.

And have Penn miss out on those sweet Magic Round dollars??

Not likely.

So it looks like no Manly to Mudgee next year.

Anyone remember the farce circa 2004 with the Kangaroos playing the Tomahawks on IIRC a smaller than regulation field?

I proudly tape recorded that on VHS.

Matt Bowen had a very good game. And from memory the USA team had Matt 'Sideshow Bob' Peterson at five-eighth.

Show the boys Remember the Titans on the plane ride over. Need to get them in the mood.
